Research (Professional) The Department of Family Medicine is seeking research assistants (RAs) for various multi-site respiratory virus research projects, who will provide support to faculty members and staff involved in the research projects. The Research Assistant (RA) will assist with the recruitment and enrollment of participants (children and adults) for research studies at sites throughout Allegheny County. Tasks include working with clinical staff to identify potential participants, screening for eligibility, consenting, swabbing noses and throats for respiratory viruses, survey completion and participant payment; and completing other research assessments as the study requires. In addition, the RA may coordinate various aspects of research studies; keep study records and agendas; contact participants; enter data into electronic databases; maintain databases of participants in research studies; and assist researchers with miscellaneous tasks as needed. The RA may maintain enrollment in studies with repeat contact with participants. The RA may escort participants from site to site in the general Oakland or Shadyside medical campus. The RA may assist with bibliographic searches and maintain project task lists using online software; may be responsible for maintaining inventory of supplies, setting up and executing site visits with participating sites. The RA must possess excellent oral and interpersonal skills; be dependable, prompt, organized, dress professionally, with careful attention to detail. Must be willing and able to travel to different sites throughout the extended Pittsburgh metropolitan area and must have a reliable vehicle for transportation. The RA will be expected to work independently at enrollment sites. Must obtain Act 33/34 clearances and FBI background check, including fingerprinting, and complete human subjects protection training. Medical assistant training or phlebotomy certification is highly desirable, but not necessary. Good writing skills are preferred. The schedule may include weekdays, evenings and/or weekends. Candidates will work up to 37.5 hours/week; accommodations for part time work are available. A High School Diploma or GED is required for this position and a Bachelor's degree is Preferred.
