We are seeking an experienced healthcare attorney to join the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) at Boston Children's Hospital. This role will work independently as a member of the internal legal team to support BCH administrative and physician leadership on legal and regulatory issues that affect their responsibilities and support business teams in achieving corporate goals and objectives.

The Associate General Counsel will:

  • Provide legal counsel and support on a broad range of areas, including digital health, patient care and health care corporate and regulatory matters.
  • Provide general legal support on other diverse matters including employment, litigation, contracts, governance and general legal support as member of in house litigation team.
  • Represent the Hospital in administrative and regulatory filings, hearings, meetings, proceedings; manage and oversee outside counsel.
  • Support transactional work of the BCH enterprise, including clinical affiliations and collaborations.
  • Draft and negotiate contracts on behalf of the enterprise.
  • Counsel the Patient Safety and Quality, Medical Staff Credentialing, Patient Relations and other departments of the Hospital on administrative and regulatory matters; drafting policies, guidelines, guidance memoranda and advice memoranda relating to the same.
  • Provide legal advice to clinical staff, child protection and patient safety team relating to consent, privacy, child protection and other health and hospital law matters.
  • Participate in OGC team coverage rotation for off-hour patient care emergency matters, including occasional handling of emergency court matters.
  • Provide advice relating to patient care, labor, employment and other laws and regulations relating to hospital operations and professional standards.
  • Manage a high volume of legal work and respond to crises and client demands efficiently and practically.

To qualify, you must have:

  • JD from an accredited law school and current licensure by the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers.
  • Minimum of seven years of related legal experience in a law firm, in-house legal department or government setting representing large organizations in health care, life sciences or government.
  • Experience managing corporate risk is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of state and federal laws, rules and regulations pertaining to healthcare, labor laws, and/or privacy laws (HIPAA and FERPA) is desirable.
  • Aptitude to offer concise and effective legal opinions by analyzing, interpreting, and applying complex facts, policies and regulations to a wide range of legal topics.
  • Track record of excellent judgment, integrity, honesty, discretion, and business acumen.
  • Strong academic credentials with excellent legal research, analytical and drafting skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong team orientation with the ability to collaborate both within a legal team and across multiple clinical, operational and compliance teams in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other web-based applications is required.
