Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Office of Student Success and Retention is dedicated to planning, coordinating, and administering retention efforts and strategies aimed at significantly improving the academic and social experience of Elizabeth City State University's students. Vested in a holistic approach to student success, retention efforts are framed specifically to engage the student both in and out of the classroom. Whether academic, social, personal, or financial, the University is dedicated to helping students overcome obstacles that stand in the way of student matriculation. |
Description of Work |
The Student Retention Specialist will support student retention efforts by assisting with monitoring the overall student population's advancement toward degree completion. With enrollment and retention as high-level priorities, the incumbent will work in collaboration with faculty, various student support services professionals and students to enhance retention and graduation rates. Occasional work may be required beyond normal working hours. |
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position |
Position requires strong interpersonal skills which would allow effective communication with administrators, faculty and students; ability to write reports; strong computer skills; and effective organizational skills and customer services skills. Possess an interest in working with a diverse population of students. |
Minimum Training and Experience |
Master's degree with a minimum of two years of experience (3-5 years preferred) working with student retention and student success strategies at a college or university setting; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
