The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

The Department of Medicine - Division of Hematology and Oncology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support the inpatient services located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Froedtert Hospital, Center for Advanced Care, and other inpatient units.

Primary Function/Responsibility

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring Hematology/Oncology/BMT intervention in inpatient environment as a member of the HemOnc/BMT inpatient service.
  • Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
  • Facilitates and communicates with patient, family, and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
  • Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
  • Participates in ongoing clinical research projects related to the field of hematology/oncology/BMT

Core Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and psychosocial status.
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information
  • Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
  • Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
  • Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.

Preferred Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE; Nocturnist rotating schedule; Monday - Friday, 7:00p - 7:00a, Saturday - Sunday and some holidays, 4:00p - 7:00a

Position Requirements:

Minimum Education:

Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies

Minimum Requirements:

Advanced Practice Nurse

Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner

Wisconsin RN License

Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License

Adult or Acute Care preferred

AHA ACLS, AHA BLS, DEA

Physician Assistant

Wisconsin Physician Assistant License

Certification by NCCPA

AHA ACLS, AHA BLS, DEA

Preferred Experience:

  • No experience required
  • Five-year experience as a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner with at least 1-2 years in a clinic or hospital environment working with chemotherapy or hematology/oncology/BMT patients is preferred.
