ABOUT THE JOB

Responsibilities for Procurement Legal Advisor within the Key Procurement Department include: The ability to understand and negotiate standard procurement agreements, provide advice regarding regulatory compliance and legal requirements that pertain to procurement agreements, participate in procurement negotiations, assure that the desired business and legal terms and conditions are captured and contained in the agreement, ensure that the agreements appropriately address Key's risk tolerances, work closely with internal risk partners and internal clients to assure business/regulatory needs are met, and provide legal counsel primarily to procurement strategists.

Success criteria include: Effectively negotiate a high volume of agreements, manage the standard procurement agreement process; work closely with all KeyCorp risk groups and lines of business to assess both business needs and risks, and assure that Key's procurement contracts are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Act as knowledgeable business partner by providing competent and effective legal advice and support.

  • Provide procurement legal contract support for assigned clients with focus on obtaining business objectives while adequately addressing associated risks
  • Perform legal research involving procurement issues
  • Provide prompt legal counsel primarily to associate procurement strategists

Client requests receive timely and collegial responses providing final resolution or an acceptable date for completion/delivery.

Workload for diverse client base, including diverse requests, is organized and prioritized in accordance with reasonable delivery dates.

Clients' procurement needs are met to allow Key to maintain a competitive advantage and procurement savings targets of the organization.

Effectively draft and negotiate contracts

  • Participate in the contract negotiation process
  • Identify and perform critical analysis of significantlegal issues involving the procurement of goods and/or services
  • Utilize high-quality oral and written communication skills
  • Work with other legal professionals, including those in the Key Law Group and outside counsel

Contracts are completed within a reasonable time and adequately address the business needs while protecting Key's interests.

Identify and effectively manage risk

  • Identify risk issues and integrate the appropriate language into the agreement to mitigate such risk
  • Collaborate with compliance and risk groups to identify, assess, and mitigate risk
  • Elevate critical risk issues to line of business senior management as appropriate
  • Keep informed of latest legal and regulatory trends.

Sound legal judgment resulting in reasonable risk-appropriate decisions.

Procurement Advisor viewed as significant participant in the procurement risk assessment process by manager, senior management, risk officers, and clients.

Develop effective and collaborative relationships

  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative and collegial relationships with clients, procurement and law group colleagues
  • Develop and maintain collaborative and collegial relationships with outside attorneys and industry representatives
  • Treat co-workers, clients, and external contacts with professionalism and respect
  • Participate in project teams and support other lines of business as requested

Support partners, clients and co-workers and be known as being an approachable, responsive, and knowledgeable resource.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree, Juris Doctorate
  • License to practice law and in good standing
  • Up to three (3) years of relevant experience
  • Proficient in researching, drafting, and negotiating legal agreements
  • Good written and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to understand and work within the business, compliance, and regulatory environment associated with procurement and the financial services industry
  • Ability to develop technical, legal, and business knowledge in relevant areas, and willingness to develop cross-functional knowledge
  • Ability to organize information, recommend solutions, communicate, and collaborate with legal and business professionals

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of financial services industry and regulatory environment
  • Knowledge of commercial law and procurement/supply chain processes
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Attendance at continuing legal education seminars and professional forums that provide timely information on developments in the industry

Key has implemented a role-based Mobile by Design approach to our employee workspaces, dedicating space to those whose roles require specific workspaces, while providing flexible options for roles which are less dependent on assigned workspaces and can be performed effectively in a mobile environment. As a result, this role may be mobile or home based, which means you may work either at a home office or in a Key facility to perform your job duties. Preferred location for the position is Brooklyn, OH. If selected candidate is local to Brooklyn, OH, they will typically work a minimum of one day a week (Wednesdays) at the office location. Team may be open to considering candidates that are local to Buffalo, New York.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $70,000.00 to $90,000.00 annually depending on location and job-related factors such as level of experience. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for short-term incentive compensation and deferred incentive compensation subject to individual and company performance
