The WVU Medicine Summer Resident program is an internship that allows students currently enrolled in MHA, MBA, or equivalent coursework the opportunity to actively participate in healthcare administrative functions within the WVU Medicine system. This program is tailored to the administrative resident's specific interests, as well as to organizational initiatives, during their internship. Residents/Interns will gain valuable mentorship and professional development opportunities from WVU Medicine's senior executives through exposure to various leadership competencies and project assignments to build skillsets and experience. The main areas of focus will be concentrated on rotations in (1) Ambulatory Operations and (2) WVUH Hospital Operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Bachelor's degree in Business or related field.

2. Currently enrolled in an accredited Master of Health Administration (MHA), graduate program or healthcare related MBA.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Previous volunteer or internship experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.

1. Resident/Intern will focus on project-based work in different areas of the organization.

  • 2 rotations will be completed in Ambulatory and Hospital Operations

*Open access to the CEO and the entire management staff

*Participation in senior management meetings, where direction, policy, and strategic planning issues are addressed for the hospital and WVU Medicine

*Participation in central corporate functions (e.g. finance and general operations)

*Participation in the completion of special projects/programs central to the hospital and WVU Medicine (e.g. Joint Commission preparation, budget development, clinical program analysis, etc.)
