Job Summary

Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring a Student Services Analyst to support Academic Advisement. This position coordinates, administers and implements student academic advisement programs for an assigned Field of Interest (FOI) and/or specialty cohort(s) by providing operational planning, program management and evaluation, direct student service delivery, as well as problem-resolution, and technical assistance.

Essential Functions

70% - Provides professional-level end-to-end Academic Advising to a caseload of students, to support student learning, persistence, and degree completion. Provides 1:1 as well as group academic advising, on-boarding, retention, and academic advising and success support functions to students to ensure ongoing successful progress to completion of degree program. Provides guidance to students on goal setting, decision making, degree and certificate options, transfer pathways, course selection, registration, academic progress, and satisfactory progress toward certificate/degree using PeopleSoft and other technology. Identifies academic options including extracurricular activities, study abroad program(s), research, and internships. Provides advice and consultation to students in selection of options best suited to students' goals, interests, and skills. As the primary liaison, connects students with academic and personal resources including tutoring and counseling. Provides ongoing, proactive follow-up to ensure student learning and progress outcomes are met. Monitors student academic progress through a variety of reporting tools.

20% - Facilitates change management activities related to Guided Pathways and the case management approach to program advisement. Provides programmatic support of this model by being an institutional resource to improve and advance the advisement role for student success. Works collaboratively and collegially with academic units and student services throughout the colleges and across the district to facilitate comprehensive academic support. Acts as college/department liaison to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic advising and success. Coordinates with College and District partners to promote programs on campus and within the community. Develops and delivers training and professional development to faculty and staff on topics related to advising; Interprets and explains College and Maricopa Community College District policies and procedures related to admissions, curriculum, advising, student success, and degree completion. Supervises and provides work direction to undergraduate student workers as needed. Evaluates performance and provides feedback on occasion. Handles immediate or sensitive issues requiring confidentiality or quality assurance. Escalates matters requiring senior leadership intervention at a Director or Dean level. Coordinates projects related to student learning, success, and retention. Implements program outreach and/or recruitment and retention. Prepares and presents at new student orientations and information sessions for current and prospective students. Outreach work to student organizations. Designs, develops, maintains, and delivers program resource information, presentations, reports, correspondence, and promotional material.

10% - Researches program opportunities, industry standards, trends, best practices and emerging technologies. Coordinates projects related to student learning, success, and retention. Implements program outreach and/or recruitment and retention. Prepares and presents at new student orientations and information sessions for current and prospective students. Outreach work to student organizations. Designs, develops, maintains and delivers program resource information, presentations, reports, correspondence, and promotional material. Attends departmental meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities; performs other duties as assigned commensurate to the grade level of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of full-time equivalent student services or college teaching experience, or experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating programs.

OR

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and four (4) years of full-time equivalent student services or college teaching experience, or experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating programs.

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree, education, certification and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

A. Master's degree or higher.

B. One (1) or more years' experience providing academic or program advisement, demonstrating the ability to effectively guide and support students in their educational pursuits in higher education setting.

C. One (1) or more years' experience working in a higher education setting, specifically in areas related to student services, and a proficiency in utilizing an online Student Information System (e.g. PeopleSoft, Banner, etc.) with the ability to navigate and manage student data effectively in a professional capacity.

D. One (1) or more years' experience implementing Guided Pathways framework in higher education setting that integrate student support services and facilitate academic program selection, particularly through the lens of Fields of Interest (FOI) tailored for specialty populations, such as underrepresented groups or non-traditional students.

E. One (1) or more years' of experience providing student services in compliance with federal and state regulations in a higher education setting (i.e., lawful presence, residency determination, and FERPA).

F. One (1) or more years' of hands-on experience tracking student cohorts and employing effective strategies to enhance student success toward persistence, retention, and/or completion.

G. Communication in Spanish (speaking and writing).

Special Working Conditions
  1. Work hours are typically standard, however, there are weekends and evenings that may be required
  2. May be required to view a computer monitor for a prolonged period of time
  3. Based on business needs, adjustment to on-campus presence may be required
