Under The Direction Of Physician-In-Charge And Manager Of Nuclear Medicine/Pet-Ct Imaging, The Technologist Is Responsible For Patient Safety, Radiation Safety State And Federal Regulations And The Performance Of High Quality Nuclear Medicine Exams And Pet-Ct Imaging. The Technologist Performs A Variety Of Technical Duties And Procedures That Require Independent Judgment, Ingenuity, Initiative And Self Motivation In Utilization Of Radionuclides And Equipment For Diagnosis And Treatment Of Disease.

Responsibilities

  • 1. In Compliance With The Nuclear Regulatory Commission And State Of Connecticut Department Of Public Health, The Technologist Will Perform The Following: Updates, Logs And Performs Quality Control; Surveys For Contamination Of Daily Incoming And Outgoing Shipments Including Department Specific Areas; Stocks Radiopharmaceuticals. Enters Data Via Nuclear Pharmacy System.
  • 2. Responsible For Patient Safety, Including Pre-Screenings For Contra-Indications, Aseptic Technique And Radiation Safety And Regulations Including Proper Documentation And Technique When Working With Radioactive Materials And Patients.
  • 3. Conducts Quality Control Assessments On All Nuclear Medicine Imaging Systems And Pet-Ct Equipment And Is Responsible For The Calibration Of Instruments And Radiopharmaceuticals And Hot Lab Management.
  • 4. Performs Cardiac Pet-Ct Studies In Conjunction With Cardiology Services And Oncology Pet-Ct Studies According To The Protocols Prescribed.
  • 5. Prepares Patient Doses And Identifies, Verifies And Documents All Radiopharmaceuticals.
  • 6. Interviews Patients, Explains Procedures And Administers Prescribed Radiopharmaceuticals.
  • 7. Maintains Safety Standards And Records Necessary Information Of Usage And Disposal Of Radioactive Media In Compliance With Nuclear Regulatory Requirements.
  • 8. Places Daily Orders For Radiopharmaceuticals.
  • 9. Performs Cardiac Spect Studies In Conjunction With The Cardiology Department And Prepares The Digital Images For Review By The Radiologist/Cardiologist.
  • 10. Meets Performance Expectations For Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, And Staff Development As Outlined In Performance Review.
  • 11. Performs Other Duties As Assigned Or Directed To Ensure Smooth Operation Of The Department/Unit.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Completion Of A Formal Nuclear Medicine Program Through Nmtcb Or Arrt Is Required. Associate Degree In Nuclear Technology Preferred. Additional Certifications Preferred Include Radiology (Rt(R)), Computed Tomography (Ct), Positron Emission Tomography (Pet) And Nuclear Cardiology Technology (Nct).

EXPERIENCE

Preferred Two (2) Years Experience As Nuclear Medicine Technologist.

LICENSURE

State Of Connecticut Department Of Public Health Licensed Preferred. BLS Required.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Must Obtain Cnmt Or Arrt ( N ) Within One Year Of Employment. The Hospital May Require A Specialty Certification In Certain Roles. Must Meet All Continuing Education Requirements By The Applicable Certification Boards And Maintain Active Certification In Good Standing.
