Overview
MICU Night Medical Intensivivist- Yale New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT Primary function of this night-time intensivist position working for the Hospitalist Service is to provide comprehensive care to Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) patients in collaboration with the internal medicine house staff, ICU based hospitalists, and the director and operations manager of the Hospitalist Service and the director of the MICU. Due to the size and complexity of the MICU there is a need for supervision of the house staff, hospitalists as well as direct patient care. Qualifications EDUCATION (number of years and type required to perform the position duties): Teaches and supervises trainees overnight over the course of patient care Participates in continuing medical education (CME) activity annually that meets all medical staff reappointment criteria and improves quality of care provided by the service. EXPERIENCE (number of years and type required to meet an acceptable level of performance): Board certification or board eligible. SPECIAL SKILLS:Excellent clinical, interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently, as well as with others. Invasive procedures such as central venous access placement, thoracentesis, paracentesis, arterial line placement, intubation of airway (placement of endotracheal tube) lumbar puncture, and pulmonary artery catheter placement preferred. ACCOUNTABILITY (how this position is held accountable for such as goals achievement, budget adherence, or other areas of accountability): Accountable to conduct accurate and appropriate evaluation, care, and coordination of care of medically critically ill inpatients. COMPLEXITY (describe planning, problem solving, decision making, creative activity, or other special factors inherent in the responsibilities of this position): Evaluates, manages, and coordinates care of medically critically ill inpatients, including interactions with other services involved in the care, and possibly in the ED. Works with Director and/or Operations Manager on special projects as assigned. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONMD Degree, full IM residency training and board certification in Internal Medicine is mandatory. The candidate must have completed (or expected to complete) a Critical Care Medicine or Pulmonary Critical Care fellowship program, and be Critical Care board eligible at the time of hire. Must have attending medical staff privileges while at Yale -New Haven Hospital, hold a valid Connecticut medical license, CT Controlled Substance Registration and Federal DEA Certificate. Must be BLS/ACLS certified. SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMAND: Fourteen, twelve hour shifts per month. Reports at 7PM and works until 7AM the next day. |
