Overview

HJF is seeking an Historian to gather historical data from various sources to answer questions about historical events. The Historian will collect and evaluate source information from written records, physical artifacts, and other types of evidence during their investigations and analyze and interpret historical information to determine its authenticity and significance.

This position will be in support of the Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC). This individual will perform historical services and/or maintaining, developing and overseeing related activities at the AFRC in collaboration with experienced technical teams. This individual will support the overall health and success of the project through early planning and close coordination with the government subject matter experts. Strong historical analytical and writing skills are required.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


Responsibilities

  • Research, analyze, and draft historical products to educate military audiences on Air Force Reserve history and its connection to present issues.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining systems for monitoring historical research projects, investigation efforts, and other activities.
  • Ensure the status of all these matters are captured in tracking systems and data bases and will notify the appropriate personnel of any delays or issues associated with these activities based on analysis of project execution.
  • Assist with planning and ensure the successful implementation of efforts relating to all aspects of the AFRC mission, to include supporting partner reporting needed by various parties.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in History is required. Doctoral Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Historical research and analysis.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Air Force, Air Force Reserve, and/or American Military History.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with data base systems and client processes.
  • Technical writing skills is preferred.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
  • Open to 100% remote.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $73,800 - $95,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
