Geotechnical Project Manager

RK&K is seeking a motivated, hard-working experienced Geotechnical Engineer to support our team in Maryland on a wide range of challenging transportation, transit, and environmental projects including highway and rail bridges, buildings, retaining walls, slopes, pavements, ground treatment of soft soils and subgrades, and utilities. You should have MDOT experience, be highly proactive, able to develop creative technical solutions, have a strong understanding of geotechnical concepts and hands-on experience with geotechnical/pavement design and field operations, experience interacting with clients, and be an effective team player with outstanding leadership and mentoring qualities. As a senior member of our Geotechnical Team, you will have the opportunity to work across disciplines to prepare plans and reports related to a variety of geotechnical and pavement projects supporting a variety of clients in the transportation and municipal sectors. You will plan and supervise field investigations and develop and review design computations, and prepare geotechnical and pavement recommendations, contract plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates.

Essential Function

• Assist in leading our geotechnical/pavement design and engineering group throughout the Mid-Atlantic with development and delivery of geotechnical assignments
• Assist with Business Development and Marketing Teams to secure future clients and workload
• Provide geotechnical expertise on all project aspects associated with conceptual engineering, detailed engineering designs, and preparation of contract documents for construction followed by construction administration with respect to the geotechnical aspects of the project
• Foster innovative design concepts related to Geotechnical Engineering to enhance project efficiency
• Serve as Project Manager on a variety of geotechnical related projects
• Aid in producing construction documents, specifications, and construction cost estimates
• Facilitate internal and client meetings and presentations
• Serve as a liaison between client and firm
• Administer QA/QC for completeness and accuracy of design work
• Hire, train, and mentor entry level and junior level Geotechnical engineers

Required Skills and Experience

• Passion for client service and engineering
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
• 10+ years of Geotechnical Design Experience (5+ years of MDOT experience)
• Experience in management of Geotechnical Task Assignments
• Comprehensive knowledge of MDOT design manuals and AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
• Significant understanding of the following software: Microsoft Office, gINT, OpenGrounds, ArcGIS Pro, LPile, APile, MSEW, Slide, Settle 3, Slope/w, AASHTOWare Pavement ME, and GRLWEAP
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Maryland Professional Engineer License is required

Preferred Skills and Experience

MS or advanced degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering preferred
