SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Car Repairman is responsible for inspecting railcar frames and bodies for defects, maintaining and repairing railcars and operating specialized equipment. This position is employed by an affiliated company of Patriot Rail.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with railcar inspections.

Identify areas of railcar requiring repair or maintenance and perform necessary work required.

Ability to use welding equipment on a variety of metals and alloys and operate torches in all positions without damage to adjoining parts.

Must complete 3G welding qualification test for ARC welding.

Ability to ensure all federal requirements and company guidelines are met and that all safety rules are followed while performing job duties.

Ability to read and understand blue prints.

Ability to inspect and perform railcar repairs including air brake pipes, valves, gaskets, air hoses and other equipment as required.

Ability to comply with FRA and AAR rules when making car repairs.

Additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to maintain accurate car repair records and reports, experience using Microsoft Office, Excel and Word a plus.

Must be able to climb and balance on ladders and /or cars.

Must be able to withstand exposure to loud noise, moving machinery parts, airborne particles, and fumes from gas, oil, and grease.

Must have a valid driver's license.

High School diploma or GED.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries.

Wear protective equipment including hearing protection, safety steel-toe boots, or safety glasses.

Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, including on-call 7 days a week, 24 hours per day, with extended periods of time away from home and short rest between assignments in accordance with the hours of service regulation

Medium to heavy work, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 80 pounds.

Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/crawl/balance/climb.

Work in cramped, confined, enclosed, or awkward places.

Ride on the outside of rail equipment for long periods of time.

Walk long distances over uneven terrain.

Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection.

Must meet color vision requirements as described in the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Regulations.

Work outside in all weather conditions.

50%-75%
