Position: Manager, Software Engineering
Experience: 10+ years of software engineering experience including 3+ years of management experience
Minimum Education: B.S. in Engineering, Science, or related field.
Location: Longmont, CO (onsite)
Compensation Range: $140k - $190k depending upon education, skills, and experience.

Our Electro-Optical Software (EO/SW) Engineering team at nLIGHT DEFENSE Systems, Inc. consist of the integration specialists. We expect EO-SW to execute and lead final software and firmware integration for deliverable systems. EO-SW Engineers learn a wide range of multi-disciplinary tools to effectively integrate and automate our state-of-the-art real time controllers. This includes integration and test of calibration sequences as well as development and refinement of automation solutions to accomplish the mission. Job Description: As the manager for the Electro-Optical Software (EO/SW) Team, your team is comprised of multi-disciplinary minded scientists that are expected to develop/test/deploy the software required for Laser Weapons Systems. You will be responsible for having the team execute on issues that contribute to scalable and robust systems. These tasks will be done in collaboration with the SW team, where you will be responsible for having the team meet functional requirements, code quality, and architecture adherence. A successful EO/SW Manager will find commonalities among programs to create tasking that best leverages the team and collaborate effectively with other disciplines within the company. They will also be systematic and well-versed in bringing SW to hardware. This includes multi-disciplinary troubleshooting to notify other teams when needed. EO/SW are often the first to find problems during integration and will also be expected to develop and execute solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with program managers and provide resources to maintain schedule.
  • Breakdown requirements to executable tasks.
  • Vector team to meet functional requirements.
  • Work with SW Architect and Manager for design and division of labor.
  • Work with Program Managers for Deployment of Features on system and support testing.
  • Review code and develop programming capabilities within the EO/SW team.
  • Contribute to group strategy to support capabilities.
  • Promote cooperative interactions across disciplines.
  • Create documentation that supports team growth.
  • Develop team members/direct reports.
Required Experience / Capability:

  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, and/or C++.
  • Effectively manage schedules and priorities with minimal daily direction to meet mid to long-term schedule objectives.
  • Willingness to engage in topics outside of expertise.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting experience with the ability to integrate information from multiple sources to reach a solution.
  • Experience leading/mentoring a team to accomplish projects.
  • Ability to problem solve in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Familiarity with MS Office 365 tools.
Additional Supporting Desired Experience / Capability:
  • Experience implementing the software development life cycle within organizations
  • Experience in task management using GitLab or similar platform.
  • Familiarity with real-time hardware.
  • Working experience in Adaptive Optical (AO) Systems, High Energy Laser Systems, and/or Large Academic Experiments.
  • Experience with electro-optical systems including acquisition, pointing, and tracking.
