The Department of Special Education (SPED) is one of six academic units within the MU College of Education and Human Development. SPED offers programs for students seeking undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees. SPED faculty members are consistently recognized - internationally and across the U.S. - for their individual and collaborative research excellence. SPED is home to several state and federally supported training, demonstration, and research projects. The department has the highest per faculty member external funding average in the college.

Job Description

The MU Department of Special Education invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar position, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) project Knowledge Exchange for Supporting Youth with or at Risk for Mathematics Difficulty (PI: Jessica Rodrigues). The NSF-funded Postdoctoral Scholar will work with Dr. Jessica Rodrigues and join Dr. Rodrigues' Mathematics Potential Lab as a key lab member and research mentor.

Research Expectations for Position:
* Participation in an established research program focused on the intersection of K-6 mathematics learning, special education, and research communication to a teacher audience
* Opportunity to pursue their own scholarly work in research and dissemination as well as preparation for pursuing an early career award grant
* Participation in professional development including grant writing training, guidance in finding funding, and support in the process of submitting an early career award
* Involvement in the Mathematics Potential Lab, which includes exciting mentorship opportunities for supporting both graduate and undergraduate students in STEM education research experiences

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
* An earned doctorate in Special Education, Mathematics Education, or related field at the time of appointment
* Experience in K-12 special education or in special education teacher education

Anticipated Hiring Range

$60,000/year plus benefits

Appointment: 12 months beginning Summer/Fall 2025 with opportunity for renewing for 2- or 3-years total
