About Us: The Institute of Healthcare Delivery Design (IHDD) is part of the Office of Population Health Sciences (OPHS) which sits within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs (OVCHA) at UIC.
IHDD applies human-centered design to healthcare delivery to break down barriers to accessing quality healthcare and to make healthcare systems, services, and experiences that "fit" people and enhance lives.

Position Summary: The Visiting Senior Research Specialist, Healthcare Policy Innovation advances the Office of Population Health Sciences - Institute for Healthcare Delivery Design's research expertise, organizational capabilities, thought leadership, and business development efforts in health policy and healthcare solutions. This role is critical in connecting user research to healthcare policy and policy to innovative healthcare delivery solutions. They are responsible for all aspects of the project from development through delivery and perform complex study and data collection methods.


Duties & Responsibilities

This role splits their time across 4 areas:
Leading research projects and relationships through IHDD's Healthcare Policy practice
Supporting one or more Advising projects at a time through research, strategy, ideation and implementation
Create research-informed thought leadership about Healthcare Policy and Practice Innovation
Communicating research results and best practices in a number of forums.

RESEARCH
  • Develop objectives and design of research and data collection procedures. Conceptualize, initiate, and execute research goals for projects. Conduct research on policies and practices within Health and Human Services across the country by connecting with experts, stakeholders, and industry professionals.
  • Research state and federal grants to understand detailed requirements and shape projects, research plans, and possible solutions to deliver on these requirements.
  • Helps structure healthcare and government agency projects and research plans in conjunction with current state federal and state policy.
  • Evaluate current developments and research findings to determine their potential applicability to research projects.

    IDEATION
  • Collaborate with IHDD leadership to develop and implement a vision for the Healthcare Policy practice.
  • Lead creative ideation and solutioning for projects with heavy policy and grant-making components
  • Help teams develop innovative healthcare solutions that may be implemented within the framework of existing policy options

    COMMUNICATION
  • Prepare, organize, and communicate research results.
  • Co-creates a point of view about innovation within Healthcare Policy that can be articulated through case studies, articles and other forms of thought leadership, including presenting at conferences and other venues.
  • Models and encourages a culture of care, collaboration, and constant learning at IHDD, including staff professional development in health policy and health care topics and relevant current events.
  • Collaborate with Executive Director to write papers, grants, and other documents for publication based on research findings and may co-author articles for publication and present at symposiums and conferences.

    STAFF MANAGEMENT
  • May act as supervisor or team lead in directing and coordinating the work of lower-level staff. Guide, train, and advise lower-level researchers and students on techniques, methods, and procedures.
  • Plan, assign and review work of staff to ensure that group objectives are met. Hire, train, develop and manage staff to ensure that a qualified staff exists to meet group objectives.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in social science or related field required.
  • A minimum of 5 years related research experience.
  • Possesses and applies advanced knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in social science preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years related experience in health care systems or policy development informed by research.
