JOB SUMMARY

The ADA/504 Coordination position oversees the ADA/Accessibility unit within the Office of Institutional Equity & Access and has broad responsibility for overseeing University programs and responsibilities to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities. As a part of the OIEA's Division of Equal Opportunity, the scope of responsibility for this role includes students/learners, faculty, staff, as well as accommodation matters related to the public's access to UT Southwestern's programs and facilities. The ADA Coordinator also supports activities and initiatives designed to foster a climate of nondiscrimination and advances diversity and inclusivity throughout the UT Southwestern campus community.

    5 years Of significant and progressively responsible experience demonstrating a clear understanding of ADA compliance and familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 with Bachelor's Degree and
Preferred
  • Education

  • PhD In related field or

    A Juris Doctorate degree
  • Experience

  • Experience in higher education ADA/504 compliance. and

    Experience resolving allegations of disability discrimination. and

    Prior supervisory experience.

JOB DUTIES
  • The ADA Coordinator oversees the Office of Institutional Equity's ADA/Accessibility unit, through which the Coordinator is over the accommodation process for students/learners and employees with disabilities.
  • The ADA Coordinator reviews all aspects of access to campus sites, programs, services, activities, and events by individuals with disabilities and acts as a primary point of contact for ADA/504 compliance and provides support to other institutional areas within the Office of Institutional Equity & Access, such as Title IX, Equal Opportunity, and the Division of Diversity & Inclusion.
  • The ADA Coordinator is also responsible for reviewing and updating campus policies, procedures, and standards for a comprehensive accessibility compliance program for individuals with temporary and permanent disabilities.
  • This position resolves complaints concerning compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • The ADA Coordinator is responsible for leading the University's effort to create and maintain a strategic plan and vision for meeting the current and future accessibility needs of UT Southwestern.
  • The ADA Coordinator develops and maintains a comprehensive case-management system and accurately logs all reports and requests for accommodations and related complaints.
  • The ADA Coordinator promotes a culture where ability is valued as an aspect of diversity, and the intersectional nature of the human experience is honored.
  • The ADA Coordinator independently manages the coordination and completion of any reports mandated by external regulatory entities or internal/external audits.
  • Informal Resolution/Mediation: The ADA Coordinator meets with complaining parties and uses independent judgment to offer conflict resolution and problem-solving alternatives, when appropriate and applicable.
  • Functions as the institutional expert on ADA compliance and assists other units within the Office of Institutional Equity & Access with addressing and responding to student and employee concerns.
  • Serves on University committees where approved and represents UT Southwestern in local, state, and regional events and meetings that support people with disabilities.
  • Collaborates with management and human resources in the development of strategies for talent management and associate development. Partners with HR to provide candidate sourcing recommendations and/or partners with recruiters to build a pipeline of qualified individuals with disabilities.
  • Assists with the creation and maintenance of an Employee Resource Group for people with disabilities.
  • Directly supervises, trains, and evaluates staff within the ADA/Accessibility unit.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
