Job Description
Southwest Virginia Community College ( SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial, and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.

Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking an individual for the role of part-time security officer for the Cedar Bluff campus.

The successful candidate will be able to foster trust within our diverse community and problem solve through collaboration.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Observing and reporting any and all incidents while on campus
  • Doing foot patrols in and around all buildings on campus
  • Conducting professional interactions with the public
  • Opening and securing buildings and classrooms
  • Occasional deposit or mail pickup/delivery
  • Basic upkeep of assigned equipment and tools
  • Directing traffic
  • Assisting students, faculty, and visitors with daily calls of service (keys locked in vehicle, boosting vehicle batteries, directions, etc.)
  • Following instructions and directives from supervision
  • Supporting special event needs

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a drug screening
  • Must be able to pass DCJS Security Officer Training (obtain certificate)
  • Must be able to pass CPR training (obtain certificate)
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Cannot have criminal convictions excluding traffic offenses
  • Must be physically fit enough to walk the campus, stairs, hallways, etc. and stand ,multiple hours in all types of weather
  • Must possess Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Must be available to work different shifts and weekends upon request
  • Security work experience preferred
  • Experience using radio communications equipment
  • Ability to multitask
  • Must maintain confidentiality, respond to internal and external requests for information and work with a diverse group of individuals
