Job Title: Electrical Systems & Controls Engineer--Utilities Location: Arnold AFB, TN Function/Branch: Engineering/Utilities Directorate: Asset Management Position Type: Regular, Full-Time Pay Type: Exempt Grade: L06-L07 Overview Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Systems & Control Engineer - Utilities, supporting TOS II, at Arnold Engineering Development Complex, in Tullahoma, TN. The Electrical Systems & Controls Engineer - Utilities will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for supporting the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts. Open to internal and external candidates. Job Summary We are seeking an Electrical Engineer in our Power Control group responsible for the distribution of electrical power from the Tennessee Valley Authority to at least eight distribution substations to provide power to our test facilities and other infrastructure. AEDC is a suite of ground test facilities providing simulated operating environments for air and space vehicles and sub system or scaled systems development and testing. While this position has some office work involved, the majority of the engineer's time is spent in the field or test area. Engineers who enjoy this type of work typically have some interest or experience with electrical systems such as motors, switch-gear, transfer switches, electrical distribution, generators, lighting systems, PLC controls, etc. which may come from a full time job or from working in aspects of electrical power, automobiles, farm equipment, or other machinery. Job Duties:
Provide electrical system engineering for assigned systems within power control group. Provide support to ARC flash program as needed.
- Responsible for maintaining the preventive maintenance processes in CMMS, field support to provide direction and make decisions on issues, engineering support for all proactive and corrective issues, spares management and the capital investment support for these systems.
- Interface directly with the Air Force (AF) customer to provide recommendations to ensure these assets are being maintained according to AF standards.
- Participate in the following engineering tasks to varying degrees at various times:
- Collect and / or derive systems requirements from various stakeholders, performing gap analyses on existing systems and / or proposing new systems
- Modify existing designs to accommodate as-built changes, increases in system capability, or changing systems requirements
- Prepare specifications, statements of work, and calculations using various software and spreadsheet tools
- Review and check detailed design drawings and data provided by other engineers, suppliers, clients, or test customers
- Provide systems installation engineering including detailed installation and checkout instructions
- Prepare systems safety hazard analyses and verification of required mitigation measures
- Prepare or review of engineering studies and reports
- Prepare or review material and craft labor estimates
- Generate detailed operations and maintenance work instructions, guidelines, procedures, and checklists
- Develop and maintain an effective preventive maintenance and asset management program for systems for which the engineer is responsible. This includes collection, analysis, and reporting of system performance data
- Instrumentation and Control System design, development, maintenance, and/or operations support
- Interface with Instrumentation, Data, and Control (ID&C) engineers; test and plant operations engineers; design engineers; facility analysis engineers; reliability engineers; project engineers and project managers; safety and environmental engineers; craft supervision and planners / schedulers; and other disciplines to ensure that the systems they are responsible for are ready to run properly when required and that maintenance outages are planned, coordinated, and properly scheduled.
- Provide technical guidance to craft personnel in setup, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and removal of systems
- Participate in incident investigations and root-cause analyses
- Present and communicate technical systems information to NAS management, AF client, and test customers
- It is a condition of employment to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.

Basic Qualifications:
- S. degree in electrical engineering from an accredited engineering college or university
- NOTE: This position is specifically for those with less than 5 years' engineering experience
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and the AEDC local area network.
- Current U. S. Citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance
- Education focus or work experience specifically related to power distribution
- Experience (internship, co-op, or full time) in operations, maintenance, and/or sustainment of electrical power components and system; transformers, motors, motor control centers, switch gear, circuit breakers, and protective devices for 13.8KVA and below
- Ability to perform in a dynamic working environment with flexibility to meet mission demands
- Technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and construction methods and materials, and application of computer aided engineering (CAE)/computer aided design (CAD) tools to engineering problems
- Strong organizational skills to track and facilitate progress on projects
- Demonstrated proactiveness and initiate to drive to results
- Exhibits strong level of technical curiosity and desire to seek understanding
- Strong communication skills (including verbal and written)
