Job Overview:

Under the direction of the radiologist and the supervision of the manager or supervisor, the PET/Nuclear Medicine technologist is responsible for utilizing unsealed radionuclides and radiation detection equipment to perform quality diagnostic studies, administer therapeutic treatments, and perform PET/CT studies. Technologists are responsible for the performance of high-quality diagnostic images utilizing proper technique with established protocols. This position utilizes independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative for accurate diagnosis. This position demonstrates competencies in identification of pathology, patient positioning, injections, IV access, and new protocols. This position is responsible for orienting new staff, troubleshooting equipment, patient and public safety, maintaining accurate records, assisting in student education, proper use and care of the equipment, working effectively with patients and families to provide patient care, maintaining a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental team members, complies with infection prevention procedures, and performs other duties as required. This position will adhere to strict radiation safety practices as described in the Department of Radiology Radiation Safety Manual, as mandated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the state of Ohio Department of Health Radioactive Materials Section, will also adhere to department protocols for patient education, safety, quality control, documentation and equipment care. This position is required to meet the minimum continuing educational requirements of the registry and the state of Ohio. This position adheres to the Practice Standards as defined by the Society of Nuclear Medicine. The PET/CT Technologist must meet all NM Technologist criteria including the training of new team members. To maintain PET/CT tech level, the technologist must be a department expert as determined by the supervisor/manager in PET/CT and one of the following engagement criteria - ACR point person, Department SOAR champion, new hire ambassador, department safety champion, patient experience committee member, peer interviewer. The PET/CT tech status will be evaluated annually by the supervisor and approved by the manager and director of Imaging.

Job Requirements:

Associate's Degree in Allied Health
Graduate of an approved technical, professional, or vocational program
Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification (NMTCB) American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) State License BLS/CPR
Nuclear Technologist
Nuclear medicine hot lab, radiation safety, nuclear medicine isotopes and tracking
Experience in a related field, NM Registered
Experience in a related field

Job Responsibilities:

Actively participates in training and mentoring of new employees and students. Uses principles of service excellence in interactions with peers as well as customers.

Demonstrates competency through ongoing CBE's. Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and its operating procedures through CBE's. Selects proper imaging protocols, parameters based on clinical history and follows departmental procedures.

Demonstrates organizational and communication skills to promote the well-being of the department. Organizes their workflow, work area and makes sure all work is complete before submitting it. Completes tasks initiated. Maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental team members.

Demonstrates proficiency and reliability in the performance and assessment of required daily quality control procedures on all equipment prior to use. Recognizes the need for corrective action and notifies the Lead Tech.

Performs in compliance with the governing standards for Nuc Med/PET as defined in the hospital department manuals, State of Ohio and NRC regulations. Accurately orders, prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with these regulations. Orients new employees in regulations.

Provides for patient, family and staff comfort, safety and care prior to, during and after a procedure. Recognizes and responds to emergency situations and radioactive spills and takes appropriate action.
