HJF is seeking a Data Analyst II to provide statistical support for quantitative and qualitative research studies and program evaluation in the Army National Guard Behavioral Health and Integrated Primary Prevention programs. The Data Analyst II participates in cross-functional teams and specific projects with defined outcomes and performs statistical data analysis.

This position will be in support of the Department of Psychiatry / Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress (CSTS).

The CSTS is one of the nation's oldest and most highly regarded, academic-based organizations dedicated to advancing trauma-informed knowledge, leadership, and methodologies. The Center's work addresses a wide scope of trauma exposure from the consequences of combat, operations other than war, terrorism, natural and humanmade disasters, and public health threats, as well as risk and protective factors associated with suicidal behaviors. CSTS is a part of our nation's federal medical school, Uniformed Services University (USU), and its Department of Psychiatry. These affiliations represent the Center's history, mission, and future directions as a major contributor to our country's understanding of the impact of trauma and the advancement of trauma-informed care. The Department has active research programs in the Basic and Clinical Sciences and Neurosciences. In addition to intramural research projects, the Department of maintains active research funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, National Institute of Drug Abuse, National Science Foundation, the Department of the Army, and the Department of the Air Force. The department has ongoing collaborations with the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, is sponsor of the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress, and provides psychiatry residency training through its affiliations with the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, National Naval Medical Center and Malcolm Grow Air Force Medical Center, and the National Capital Area Graduate Medical Education Consortium.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. The site background requirement for this position requires that you have lived in the US for three out of the past five years.


Responsibilities

  • Assists in the design of research studies and program evaluation, including designing surveys
  • Provides statistical and data analyses support throughout the courses of research studies
  • Assists with coordinating statistical analysis and data between studies by providing statistical consultation
  • Participates in data-related projects including, but not limited to, data normalization, data cleaning (especially complex strings), data maintenance, data standardization, data product development, and data quality assurance
  • Creates visualizations (e.g., graphs, maps, heat maps)
  • Runs descriptive statistics and simple inferential statistics (e.g., t-tests, ANOVAs, Cohen's D)
  • Runs complex statistics at times (e.g., factor analysis, Cronbach alpha)
  • Interprets and makes conclusions from the data for decision making and public health purposes
  • Provides statistical and project status updates to staff and partners
  • Works with data and evaluation teams to achieve the goals of the research project
  • Prepares statistical reports for presentations and publications
  • Experience presenting on data results and findings
  • Recommends and implements changes as needed
  • Assists junior analysts with analysis work
  • Recommends operating methods to improve processing, distribution, data flow, collection, and database editing procedures
  • Attend and participate in required trainings for the role
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in the design of research studies
  • Strong statistical and data analytic skills
  • Experience with geospatial data
  • Ability to investigate data issues and participate in remediation activities
  • Experience in using SAS and R to clean, restructure, visualize data, and perform statistical analysis
  • Experience in using NVivo or other qualitative analysis software
  • Experience creating REDcap and Qualtrics surveys
  • Ability to write up research results and findings
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team
  • Ability to design and carry out effective presentations
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with military populations preferred
  • Preference for experience or knowledge of DoD.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Required; Master's Degree Preferred. Preference for degrees in epidemiology, biostatistics, psychology, public health, and social sciences.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required

  • Set in an Office environment

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $64,200-$109,200. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
