What you'll be doing...

Verizon seeks an energetic, creative, business-oriented attorney to partner with and provide legal support to Verizon's Great Plains, Mountain, and KS/MO submarkets in the GN&T organization, including: strategic planning, negotiation, implementation and management of our network infrastructure agreements; managing legal disputes and litigation relating to our network assets and agreements; working with our real estate teams to obtain approvals from local jurisdictions for new network sites; and other strategic network initiatives. The position requires a business partner willing to collaborate with and support this dynamic team from brainstorming through execution and ongoing support to ensure the success of these critical projects. The ideal candidate will be a team player with significant legal experience in reviewing and negotiating complex contracts, with the ability to provide sound legal advice to internal client groups as requested, to collaborate with other internal business partners supporting this client, to prioritize and complete high-level urgent matters efficiently and decisively, and to supervise outside counsel where appropriate. The candidate must be a strategic thinker, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, have significant transactional experience, demonstrate good judgment, and have a proven track record of advising clients in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The Network Counsel will handle substantial responsibilities under the supervision of two Managing Associate General Counsels, including the following responsibilities:

  • Drafting and negotiating network infrastructure agreements, including for construction of new towers and small cells and other wireless facilities, and related agreements.

  • Developing expertise and a deep understanding of the network infrastructure deployed by the Network client group in order to provide day-to-day guidance and support related to network infrastructure and related agreements, including contract interpretation, drafting, and review; risk assessment; dispute resolution; implementation guidance; and operational support.

  • Creating and providing periodic legal training to internal and external stakeholders, including submarket field teams and outside counsel, as necessary to successfully implement and support such agreements and initiatives.

  • Advising on strategies to lower network real estate costs and minimize risk of network disruptions.

  • Supervising outside counsel's work in support of this client group (including transactional, litigation and zoning matters).

  • Counseling internal clients on a range of legal issues relating to real estate and regulatory compliance matters impacting Verizon's network deployment and operation.

  • Assisting the Network client in resolving landlord disputes.

  • Representing Verizon in meetings, negotiations and disputes with local governments regarding network projects and regulatory requirements.

  • Supporting strategic projects and other tasks or responsibilities assigned by Managing Associate General Counsel

What we're looking for... You'll need to have:
  • JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Bar admission and good standing in at least one state and required licenses.

  • Experience as a practicing transactional attorney at a law firm or in-house legal department

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Knowledge and prior experience with the telecommunications industry

  • Knowledge and substantive experience handling complex contract negotiations

  • Knowledge and substantive experience with land use and zoning matters

  • Knowledge and prior experience with real estate transactions

  • Strong project management skills with a proven track record of managing complex projects from inception to completion and team management skills

  • Ability to think creatively to find new solutions

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every "even better" qualification listed above.
