JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Neural and Behavioral Sciences, in Hershey, PA is seeking a full-time Research Technologist - Animal Sciences in the laboratory of Dr. Andras Hajnal The work in the lab is focused on neural and behavioral effects of diet-induced obesity and spinal cord injury. The lab uses behavioral techniques to assess taste and food preferences, as well as molecular, histological and pharmacological techniques in rats. Prior experience with behavioral research using animals and common molecular biological techniques is preferred for this position. Additional functions of the position include managing inventory and ordering of supplies and animals, act as liaison with Core Services. Candidates must be willing to learn new techniques and be responsible, self-motivated, a good communicator, and possess strong organizational skills Basic computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Excel and Office) are required. Successful candidates for this position are required to have a bachelor's degree, preferably in a biological or biomedical science field, and requisite experience. The Research Technologist - Animal Sciences perform specialized tasks associated with developing, designing, and conducting research projects and experiments under the general direction of faculty and post-docs. Tasks involve working with animals confined in conventional, barrier, quarantine, and specialized biohazard housing; may require handling of acute, chronic, and infectious diseases, quarantine procedures, and radioisotopes.
This position will be filled at a Professional or Intermediate Professional depending on the candidate's education and experience. This position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 1+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional education and/or experience required for higher level positions. This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, withpossibility of refunding.
