Description

Working under the general supervision of Principal In Investigator (or Research Manager), and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, conducts a variety of routine experiments where methodologies are clearly established. Calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data
using basic statistics. May perform literature searches under direction of supervisor.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Histologic sectioning and staining of tissue specimens according to standardized protocols.

2. Transport of specimens between the frozen section room on L1 and the processing laboratory on Thorn 4.

3. Process specimens according to standardized protocols, including subdividing and freezing tissue specimens and centrifuging and aliquoting blood samples.

4. Routine and preventive maintenance of lab equipment and freezers. Cleaning, stocking and general laboratory maintenance.

5. Independently performs routine and non-routine experiments, which are moderate to complex. Experiments may include Nucleic acid extraction and quality assessment, centrifugation, pipetting, operation of cryostat, centrifuge, microcentrifuge, bioanalyzer, Nanodrop spectrophotometer.

6. Calculate, transcribes and analyzes data. Interact with laboratory information management system.

7. Performs biospecimen processing in preparation for bulk, single-nucleus and single-cell sequencing, and spatial analysis.

8. In collaboration with PI or Research Manager, establishes new and modifies existing research SOPs.

9. Coordinates schedule of tests and procedures.

10. Coordinates lab activities such as infection control, and bio-safety activities.

11. Assists in the orientation and training of new staff.

12. All other duties as assigned


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • BS in a biological/physical science required.
  • New graduate with relevant course or project work


SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Must be well-organized and detail-oriented with good computer skills. Time-management, multitasking and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, developing organization are essential.

* Computer literacy

* Working knowledge of research protocols

* Wet lab experience including but not limited to histological staining and image analysis
