Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine (UCCOM) has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.The Department of Family & Community Medicine has played a leading role in fellow, resident, and medical student education since 1974 and continues to focus on improving the health of members of our Cincinnati community and beyond, with a special focus on medically underserved patients. With faculty expertise in areas such as primary care research, palliative care, geriatrics, global health and integrative medicine, the department is advancing the college's commitment to cultivating learning environments, fostering research and scholarship, and providing innovative patient care.

The Department of Family and Community Medicine is recruiting a physician for a one-year Developmental Medicine Fellowship. The fellow will provide care primarily to patients transitioning from pediatric care providers to the UC Health continuity clinic at the Timothy Freeman, MD Center for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).The Timothy Freeman, MD Center for IDD provides patients age 18+ with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities with patient-centered, coordinated care. This fellow will also rotate through additional clinic specialties and participate in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities in clinical care, teaching and scholarship will include:



  • Provide primary care and psychiatric care to adults with IDD at the Timothy Freeman, MD Center for IDD at UC Health.
  • Rotate with interdisciplinary team members including psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), behavior supports, nutrition, and mental health counseling.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the clinical sites.
  • Attend monthly interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Teach and supervise rotating fourth year medical students as a part of the Primary Care for Adults with IDD elective at UCCOM.
  • Develop and teach the IDD longitudinal curricular thread currently being taught at UCCOM.
  • Participate in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, including the evidence-based medicine project.
  • Devote one half day for research based on fellow's interest.
  • Present a small research project or quality improvement project at a national meeting, such as The American Academy of Developmental Medicine & Dentistry (AADMD), The American Academy for Cerebral Palsy & Developmental Medicine (AACPDM), or The Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD).

Minimum Requirements

  • Medical Degree (MD/DO)
  • Completion of a Family Medicine residency, or Internal Medicine residency, or Internal Medicine/Pediatrics residency or Family Medicine/Psychiatry residency.
  • Must have an unrestricted Ohio Medical License and DEA license prior to the start date.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
