Job Description

Acts as the Pharmacy Liaison between all departments utilizing the Pyxis Automated Dispensing System. Ensures the procurement of pharmaceuticals, equipment and supplies required by the Pharmacy in order to deliver comprehensive services efficiently and in a timely manner. Works closely with the Pharmacy staff to facilitate inventory control activities.

Job Responsibility




  • Acts as the liaison between all departments and nursing units utilizing the Pyxis Automated Dispensing System.
  • Responsible for adding and deleting users to the Pyxis System in a timely manner.
  • Trains all new users to the operations of the Pyxis System and inventory management.
  • Reviews all monthly reports.
  • Informs management of any discrepancies.
  • Acts as liaison between the pharmacist and/or pharmacy technician to assure adequate personnel are available to replenish the Pyxis Med stations; in conjunction with other healthcare workers, determines additions or deletions or medication from the Pyxis Med station; assists all departments and nursing units with Pyxis mechanical and software problems.
  • Acts as the liaison between the Pyxis Corporation to assure Med stations are repaired as soon as possible; participates in various Quality Assurance projects; checks trends of medication usage, (i.e. doses removed from Pyxis vs. dose administered); responsible for monitoring expiration dates of medications contained in the Pyxis Units. Assists in the development and implementation of inventory control procedures to enable Pharmacy to provide quality drug products at the lowest acquisition cost and minimize situations when pharmaceuticals are in short supply; reviews hospital and group purchasing contracts on an ongoing basis; utilizes contracts in purchasing activities, unless otherwise directed.
  • Promptly identifies and informs the management of products not currently under contract; accurately and promptly edits the pharmacy worksheets to document changes in hospital/group contracts.
  • Determines par stock levels based on usage that enable the Pharmacy to keep adequate supplies or pharmaceuticals in inventory; reviews the pharmacy order sheets and the actual inventory when preparing orders for pharmaceuticals, supplies and equipment; prepares orders accurately and places them sufficiently in advance to minimize short supply situations.
  • Assists in the procurement of medications from other hospitals when needed in an emergency; promptly reviews orders that have been received, identifying and correcting discrepancies; informs management of any discrepancies; provides adequate direction and communication with the staff regarding inventory control activities.

Job Qualification




  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, required.
