In the plan to create a new hub for mRNA-based vaccine discovery in Cambridge, we are building new laboratories that will be focused on the development of state-of-the-art methods that will be supporting deep product understanding, process and product development, as well as testing of pre-clinical and clinical samples for new mRNA-based vaccines.

As a scientist in the cellular immunology team, you will develop and perform pre-clinical immunological assays using human samples and will support the project team in spearheading GSK's innovation of novel viral vaccines and platform programs. You will have the opportunity to work on multiple viral vaccine programs and platforms within GSK in a collaborative and matrix team.

Key Responsibilities:

This role will provide you with the opportunity to lead key activities and to progress your career based on performance. The responsibilities include the following:

  • Help develop and utilize cellular immunological assays to support the selection of novel vaccine candidates & platform technology development
  • Implement and test assays focused on the assessment of human T cell responses
  • Independently plan and execute complex high parametric flow cytometry experiments, and analyze data for pre-clinical studies and clinical trial samples
  • Manage requests and usage of human biological samples across teams abiding to GSK and local regulations
  • Contribute to the development of new technological platforms such as spectral and imaging flow cytometry
  • Analyze experimental data and document them in detail using an electronic notebook
  • Interact effectively with colleagues from other departments on technical and scientific matters to deliver on team overall goals
  • Independently write lab protocols. Prepare detailed oral or written summaries of results with interpretation for projects/programs. Present and discuss results at internal and external meetings

Basic Qualifications:

  • Degree in immunology, microbiology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related scientific field.
  • PhD with 0+ years of post-doc and/or job-related experience, MS with 4+ years of experience, or BS with 8+ years of experience.
  • Two or more years of expertise with immunological assays using human samples, e.g. characterization of T-cell and B-cells subsets, intracellular cytokine staining, innate immune cells
  • One or more years of experience in designing and executing flow cytometry experiments, flow cytometry data analysis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Very good understanding of T cell immunology
  • Previous work in infectious disease/vaccine field
  • Advanced Data science skills for large integrated data analysis
  • Flow cytometry applied to clinical samples project management experience
  • Demonstrated capability to maintain flow cytometry instruments and troubleshoot
  • Prior experience in working in a GLP/GCLP environment
