Job Summary:

The Department of Surgery at The University of Wisconsin is recruiting an exceptional Vascular surgeon to join our Division of Vascular Surgery. We are looking for candidates with a track record of clinical excellence and academic contributions as demonstrated through training and/or practice experience.

The UW Department of Surgery consists of more than 160 faculty across eleven specialty divisions, performing more than 25,000 operations annually. The Department also trains more than 70 residents and fellows and is consistently ranked amongst the top surgery programs with extramural research funding, currently 12th in the nation according to Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. The department provides a robust infrastructure of services including academic resources such as The Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program (WiSOR), which provides support, resources, and a collaborative environment to facilitate surgical health services research at the University of Wisconsin. The Department's Office of Clinical Research provides 24/7, 365 day a year clinical trial coordinator support for Clinical Trials as well regulatory support for research, and the grants management team provides comprehensive pre-award to post- award support. The Surgical Collaborative of Wisconsin also provides access to a network of surgeons throughout the state and this platform provides opportunities for collaborative quality improvement that improves the care of surgical patients throughout the state and region.

The Division of Vascular Surgery includes 17 Faculty members and 11 dedicated Advanced Practice Providers. The division is well known for the treatment of Complex Aortic pathologies including thoracic and thoraco-abdominal aneurysm and lower extremity diseases such as Chronic critical limb ischemia, venous thrombosis, and compartment syndromes. Current basic science and clinical service outcome research programs include the study of the vascular biology of aortic aneurysms and characterization of the surgical consent process with major procedures. Additionally, the Division of Vascular Surgery offers two comprehensive, ACGME-accredited programs as well as a fourth-year elective.


Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be responsible for care that extends to the full range of arterial, venous, and lymphatic disorders, including diseases of the carotid artery, aorta, visceral, and extremity arteries. This position will offer the opportunity to perform complex aortic cases, open and/or endovascular. and to be involved in our growing multi-disciplinary aortic program. UW vascular surgeons provide surgical care at UW Hospital and Clinics, the Middleton VA Hospital, and several community hospitals. The ideal candidate will be an outstanding clinician with a strong interest in developing and maintaining a successful academic vascular program. The successful candidate will participate in the teaching of medical students, general surgery residents, vascular surgery residents, and fellows as well as in professional, public, and university service.

For those appointed to the CHS title track, academic responsibilities will include teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Academic duties and responsibilities beyond baseline faculty expectations will depend on individual interests and expertise. Candidates must possess clinical and academic credentials sufficient for appointment at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank at the CHS Track that have been previously established by UW School of Medicine and Public Health Guidelines. Appointment as Associate Professor or full Professor will require that candidate's credentials meet criteria for rank established by UW School of Medicine and Public Health Guidelines.

Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the appointment start date.

Board certification or board eligibility in Vascular Surgery through the American Board of Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery or equivalent is required by appointment start date.
