Position Summary
This position has an expert level of technical knowledge and skills for the operation and maintenance of the UGA campus building HVAC systems and will perform in the operation, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of the most complex building HVAC systems and components. This position has an expert level of mechanical skills and technical knowledge for performing checks to ensure HVAC systems are delivering the correct air volumes at the air delivery points. Knowledge of chillers, cooling towers, water treatment systems, air handlers, terminal units, water coils, pumps, valves, motor starters, pneumatic controls, and Building Automation Systems ( BAS). This position works independently to complete tasks within this competency.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
This position has expert level technical knowledge and skills in the operation, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of building HVAC systems and components including but not limited to making repairs and performing checks to ensure HVAC systems are delivering the correct air volumes at the air delivery points, chillers, cooling towers, water treatment systems, air handlers, terminal units, water coils, pumps, valves, and motor starters, Building Automation Systems ( BAS) and the following:

  • Low voltage wiring
  • Troubleshooting, testing and assisting in the commissioning of HVAC systems
  • Reading and interpreting mechanical plans and wiring diagrams

  • TCP/IP, RS-485, LAN, and Bacnet communications.
  • Analyzing and correcting communication issues
  • Analyzing and measuring airflow and hydronic systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair HVAC control systems.
  • Knowledge of the various types of HVAC systems and their components.
  • Ability to understand HVAC control diagrams, blueprints, and equipment manuals and use same to troubleshoot system problems.
  • Ability to use diagnostic test equipment and tools of the HVAC and TAB trades.
  • Understand and apply standard trade practices in performing work.
  • Knowledge of HVAC control theory and application.

Physical Demands

  • Lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, working overhead, climbing stairs, using regular and extended ladders throughout 8-hour work shift.
  • Lift up to 75lbs and work under adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
