*Temporary staff employees are ineligible to receive benefits (leave, health coverage, State service credit, etc.). They are, however, covered by Worker's Compensation provisions.
Any non-permanent employee hired to work 30 or more hours per week for three months or more (cumulative of all positions, and not designated as variable hour worker), must be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, within 30 days of their eligibility. Any non-permanent employee hired to work less than 30 hours per week (cumulative of all positions, or designated as variable hour worker - i.e. student workers) are measured during designated measurement periods. If they average 30 or more hours per week over a designated measurement period, they will be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, and will be notified of instructions.

Pay Rate $23-$25 per hour, pending qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor's degree in a related field with 1 + years of leave of absence experience, or combination of equivalent education and experience.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
FMLA and other leave of absence
General benefits administration (onboarding, offboarding, qualifying life events)
Software: Excel, Google (email, calendar, docs, sheets), Time Keeping and Leave, HR System
Duties and Responsibilities
Leave of Absence ( LOA) - Primary focus FMLA:

  • Monitor and respond to the Leave of Absence email box
  • Assist with LOA phone calls/visitors/virtual meetings (employees, managers and time keepers)
  • Complete the intake process for documents/applications received (fax, upload, in person, mail) -includes, not limited to the following: reviewing and saving documents, and updating the system(s) where needed.
  • Run Leave of Absence task list reports, filter and sort to determine actions needed, assign tasks, and carry out actions
  • Run and review Kronos reports
  • Determine eligibility for FMLA based on service and hours worked
  • Determine available FMLA hours
  • Send FMLA forms
  • Send reminders to employees to submit documentation (i.e. medical certification and/or Fitness for Duty form)
  • Run Leave Without Pay (LWOP) reports
  • Review the community service leave reports to identify eligibility and provide follow-up as needed, with employees and managers
  • Fax benefits documents
  • Other LOA tasks as assigned


Other Work/Responsibilities
Provide general benefits administration:

  • Provide customer service for general benefits number, email account, and visitors to the office
  • Assist with validating benefits supporting documents and data entry in designated systems
  • Complete other related duties/projects as assigned to support the benefits unit
