Position Description
Primary Purpose and Essential Functions |
Reporting to the Chair of the Department Clinical Oral Healthcare. Primary areas of responsibility include course directing
COH 217, Clinical
ODTP and Treatment Planning, department liaison for
ODTP in the clinical practice strand and clinical teaching in main clinic. In addition to the traditional expectations for faculty members, the culture of humanism and collaboration at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry is especially important.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBLITES:
- Course director for COH 217, Clinical ODTP and Treatment Planning for DDS and IDS classes.
- Be the department liaison for ODTP in the clinical practice strand. Teaching ODTP in ICS as well as creating content for evaluation of ODTP in clinic.
- Serve as generalist faculty in main clinic including evening clinic sessions.
- Provide didactic and clinical guidance, education, orientation, and mentorship for students through procedural oversight and small group learning.
- Screen patients for group practices as needed.
- Teach in Emergency clinic as needed and during break weeks.
- Create quarterly Night clinic faculty schedule.
- Conduct night clinic faculty calibration biannually and act as point person for night clinic faculty.
- Meet with infection control manager and update the exposure binders annually for GPLs and night clinic lead faculty.
- Present at the class meetings, faculty orientation meetings and student orientation meetings.
- Approve University Project forms (Dentical training) and act as point person for students and faculty in the absence of GPLs.
- Perform all duties as assigned by the supervisor, which may include assisting with administrative tasks, supporting project management, and contributing to department operations as needed.
- Have the flexibility to travel to the Sacramento campus when required, supporting cross campus initiatives and collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications |
Knowledge of:
- Dental school generalist teaching model.
- Competency based education and assessment methodology.
- Modern pedagogical concepts and application in health professions education.
- Providing care for patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Integrated, interprofessional care delivery systems.
- Trends in oral health and oral health education.
- Dental accreditation standards and processes.
- Computer skills (Word, Excel and Powerpoint).
Ability to:
- Promote the dental school mission, vision, and core values.
- Lead and function in an active change environment.
- Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, residents, students in a variety of ways including: email, texts, one-on-one conversations, small meetings, large meetings, lectures, etc.

Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of work experience in a dental school setting.
- Minimum of 5 years of practice experience.

Physical Requirements |
- Work performed is primarily direct patient care with frequent use of computer keyboard and phone.
- Requires sitting, standing, bending, walking.
- Occasional lifting of up to 15lbs should be anticipated.
GENERAL: Faculty should have sufficient motor function to execute movements essential to
providing oral health care to patients.
SPECIFIC: Must possess the motor skills to perform palpation, percussion, auscultation and other
diagnostic maneuvers, basic laboratory tests, dental preparations, and diagnostic procedures in a
timely manner. Such actions require coordination of gross and fine muscular movements,
equilibrium, and functional uses of the senses of touch and vision.
SPECIFIC: Must be able to perform basic life support including
CPR, transfer, and position patients
with disabilities, physically restrain adults and children who lack motor control, and position and
reposition himself or herself around the patient and chair in sitting and standing positions for
prolonged periods of time. A student must promote and support the ability of coworkers to perform prompt care. Must be able to operate controls, use high-speed or low-speed dental handpieces for tooth preparation procedures, and use hand instrumentation including scalpels for surgical procedures. All these skills must be performed within reasonable time frames.
Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens may reasonably be anticipated. Personal protective equipment is expected to reduce or eliminate exposure to routine or limited infectious agents. |
Hiring Range |
$90,000 - $100,000 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. |
