The Operations Safety Specialist will serve as safety resource within a domicile location. Responsible for delivering safety-related content, education and programs to the location. Supports and maintains the 'Safety Above All' culture. Creates and customizes safety strategy, initiatives and programs within the local operating environment. Engages, coaches, develops and trains on safety acumen and leadership.

Essential Functions

  • Observes operations and inspects work areas to identify, evaluate root cause, and abate behavioral and environmental hazards.
  • Administers and evaluates policies relating to safety management, audits, and employee training.
  • Coaches Ops Managers on effective package handler engagement; developing site level guidance and quality assurance for the larger behavior-based learning and employee engagement programs.
  • Researches and evaluates root cause determinations on safety issues using QDM principles.
  • Leads and plans safety portions of pre/post-sort meetings and building staff meetings.
  • Delivers safety orientation and training at all levels.
  • Conducts and educates on incident investigations.
  • Creates and presents safety performance to building management and advises on remedial action plans if necessary.
  • Assesses and orchestrates yard safety improvement efforts, coordinating use of the yard between Transportation and Hub/Station to ensure processes and equipment are optimized, yard safety controls are put in place and followed, and concerns or incidents are reviewed for improvement.
  • Initiates, develops, and maintains positive and impactful relationships with various enforcement and regulatory agencies.
  • Guides and supports safety and health agency inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures; Works with district/regional and corporate personnel to address any identified issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Safety, Health and Environmental Science, or related field preferred.

Minimum Experience

  • Six (6) months experience required in instructor-led training, field operations or related area. Experience working in a Safety focused leadership role preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • ASSP, NSC, OSHA Training Institute, or Accredited College Certification preferred.
  • Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications.
  • Ability to inspire a shared vision and empower and motivate a team.
  • Ability to build effective relationships built on trust, respect and collaboration.
  • Presentation skills necessary to facilitate training and/or deliver informational sessions to groups and/or individuals.
  • Ability to develop effective methods for data analysis and interpret results.Time management and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects, appropriately prioritize workload, plan for resources to meet deadlines and goals, and respond to day-to-day functional needs.
  • Ability to anticipate and identify problems and use sound judgment and fact-based analysis to develop effective and efficient solutions.
  • Knowledge of concepts, practices, policies and procedures related to FedEx Operations preferred
