Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and creative Restaurant Chef to lead our kitchen team at Solitude Mountain Resort. Our full-service restaurant embraces the spirit of the mountains, featuring a menu of alpine-inspired comfort food that caters to guests across breakfast, apres, and dinner services. We provide a cozy, welcoming atmosphere where guests can refuel and relax after a day on the slopes.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for crafting memorable dining experiences, with a focus on alpine comfort cuisine that captures the essence of mountain living. This role requires a hands-on approach to menu development, kitchen management, and staff training to deliver high-quality meals throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Menu Development and Execution
- Design seasonal menus featuring alpine-inspired comfort food for breakfast, apres, and dinner services.
- Develop hearty, flavorful dishes that cater to the preferences of both locals and visitors.
- Incorporate locally sourced ingredients and creative presentation to enhance the dining experience.
- Conduct regular tastings and adjustments to ensure consistent quality and innovation.
2. Kitchen Operations and Efficiency
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the kitchen, ensuring smooth and efficient service.
- Implement and maintain high standards for food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness.
- Monitor food preparation and presentation, ensuring consistency and adherence to recipes.
- Manage inventory, coordinate supply orders, and minimize waste.
3. Team Leadership and Staff Development
- Recruit, train, and mentor a talented kitchen team, fostering a positive work environment.
- Schedule kitchen staff to optimize labor efficiency and maintain service standards.
- Provide ongoing training and support, encouraging professional growth and development.
- Lead by example, maintaining a high level of professionalism and culinary expertise.

4. Cost Management and Profitability
- Develop and manage kitchen budgets, ensuring effective cost control.
- Analyze food costs, labor expenses, and pricing strategies to maximize profitability.
- Implement measures to reduce waste and increase operational efficiency.
5. Guest Satisfaction and Experience
- Collaborate with the front-of-house team to ensure seamless communication and exceptional guest experiences.
- Address guest feedback promptly and thoughtfully, adjusting offerings as needed to enhance satisfaction.
- Participate in special events, tastings, and promotional activities to showcase the restaurant's offerings.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years as a Chef or Sous Chef in a full-service, high-volume restaurant; experience with alpine or comfort cuisine is preferred.
- Culinary Education: Degree in Culinary Arts or equivalent experience.
- Expertise in menu development with a focus on alpine-inspired dishes.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Certifications: Food Safety Manager Certification required; additional certifications in health and safety are a plus.
