YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE We are looking for a Senior Manager Chemistry Research and Development in 3600 Eagle Nest Dr, North Building, Crete, IL 60417 USA. Your mission will be to: This role is responsible for oversight and leadership of the chemistry Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) department for Merieux NA. This role combines leadership, scientific expertise, and operational management to ensure that all chemistry-related activities align with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational goals. The manager will lead a team of scientists, working collaboratively with other departments to achieve operational excellence, product quality, and innovation. The incumbent is also expected to serve as subject matter expert in support of customers (internal and external) to identify and optimize analytical approaches for food and supplement matrices. It is expected that the role will also require presentation of technical topics to customers, regulators and industry trade groups. This position reports to the VP of Chemistry Operations NA
and supports the growth of chemistry within the organization. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
* Serve as a technical/scientific resource to laboratory staff as needed.
* Build and create a high performance team, including development of talent.
* Ensure adherence to defined protocols and SOPs.
* Support Sales and Customer Care as technical expert.
* Continually optimize testing operations to meet customer expectations on speed and quality.
* Collaborate on selection, optimization and justification of equipment and all other analytical resources.
* Work with other functions such as Product Management and Sales to add new methods in fast and error free fashion.
* Evaluate and investigate new technologies and instrumentation to improve existing processes.
* Assist laboratory staff with method training and execution.
* Troubleshoot analytical methods and complex analytical equipment, such as LC/MS/MS, LC, GC. ICP, ICP-MS and AA.
* Train analysts where required; including transfer of theoretical knowledge and participate in the training programs.
* Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities.
* Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process, including participation in monitoring of quality parameters as assigned, and performance of necessary tasks related to quality control parameters for the test being performed.
* This position has the responsibilities and authority to identify departures from the quality system or test procedures and document such observations in and the supervisor is notified.
* Responsibility to support laboratory management in the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of new methods.
* Other related duties as assigned.
* At any time, the incumbent must behave and operate in an ethical and Code of Conduct compliant manner. YOUR PROFILE * This position requires a minimum of M.S. in a related discipline with a minimum of 7 years related experience or a B.S. in a related discipline and over 10 years related experience. A minimum of 3 years in a role with direct people leadership is required.
* A basic knowledge of food science is needed to interpret results. In-depth knowledge of the operation, maintenance and trouble shooting on complex analytical equipment such as HPLC, GC, LC/MS/MS, ICP and ICP/MS are required. A broad knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems and Laboratory Instrument Data systems is required. The incumbent needs a broad knowledge of analytical chemistry to perform analysis procedures. A broad knowledge of mathematics and statistical analysis are necessary to perform calculations. A broad knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary to ensure a safe working environment. Time management skills are essential to maximize the progress of the analysis process and perform multiple tasks at the same time. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to communicate with clients, colleagues, and management.
* Knowledge of laboratory quality systems, Standard Operating Procedures, food testing methods, accreditation requirements and laboratory operating systems is required to ensure laboratory systems are providing accurate and reliable test results for the client. Strong analytical skills are needed to solve problems with laboratory systems or client issues. Strong interpersonal skills are required to build and maintain relationships across laboratory and corporate functions. Well-developed oral and written communication skills are essential for effective client, laboratory personnel and corporate staff interactions. A broad knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System is required to complete job responsibilities. Client relation skills are needed to provide technical support services to the client.
* The incumbent supervises the activities of all departmental personnel. Responsibilities include all aspects of operational management; such as hiring, developing, providing feedback, and evaluating the performance of direct reports. The incumbent coordinates the activities of the laboratory with those of other departments. This position coordinates with corporate departments to obtain information to provide quality services to the customer. Internal coordination between the various laboratory functions is needed to achieve the most accurate and timely analysis possible.
Qualifications Desired
* Strong knowledge of the food or supplement third party testing process.
* Advanced knowledge in an applicable instrument technology (HPLC, ICP, LCMS, GCMS, etc.)

* The incumbent works in the laboratory environment with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur. Periodic travel may be needed to various laboratory locations, client facilities, and professional seminars. The incumbent must be able to handle all food matrices or other product types as received, within appropriate safety guidelines. Visits to clients' facilities may be required including production facilities and the incumbent must adhere to all requirements outlined in their health and safety protocols.
