Overview

Our innovative and growing organization is searching for a motivated and compassionate candidate for the Optometry Department. Our department is passionate about a lot of things like our patients, our team members, and of course eyes; they provide a window into the health of your body. We are looking to add a member to our group who has strong communication skills, is dependable, self-motivated, and responsible. This position provides onsite training along with offering several opportunities to grow personally and professionally. We also provide a great work life balance with our 8hour day shifts. The Optometric Technician is an unlicensed health professional who assists the optometrists, physicians and nurses with patient screening, diagnostic testing, exams and maintains department patient care supplies, ensures timely flow of patients, and provides educational instructions for optometry patients. No prior experience in optometry is required - we provide comprehensive training! This position is also open to candidates with an active Certified Medical Assistant.


Qualifications

License/Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)

Responsibilities

Obtain and verify medical information pertinent to the eye exam requested by the doctor. Completes initial patient screening. Documents pertinent patient information in EMR.
Maintains patient care environment and supplies to ensure patient privacy and safety
Performs ophthalmic diagnostic testing and related tasks/duties using applicable equipment and methodology.
Educates patients about the wear and care of contact lenses.
Be proficient able to perform basic work-ups for all visit types, including updating verifying required patient information in EPIC (HPI, ROS, Meds Allergies, Social Hx, Family Hx, Medical Eye Hx). Testing to include Farnsworth Ishihara color testing, Stereopsis, Amsler Grid, Vision Therapy, Lens Analyzer. Be proficient with diagnostic equipment per needs of the department: Pentacam, OCT, VF, Glare testing, Auto-refractor, Hand Held AR, Accupen Tonopen, Pachymeter Pentacam. Perform pupil checks dilation: including use of transilluminator to check pupils, use of Accupen or tonopen to check eye pressure, proper technique of instilling drops. Perform Patient Education on insertion and removal, care handling of all types of contact lenses. Complete designated continuing education requirements including BLS certification Medical Terminology.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $16.45per hour - $26.65per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
