Position description

Associate or Full Specialist - Hata lab

Cardiovascular Research Institute

We are seeking a Specialist who is a highly enthusiastic, hardworking, and insightful scientist with a strong background in pulmonary hypertension research, particularly using rodent models and human samples. The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. and have a minimum of five years of postdoctoral experience in cardiovascular research.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI; Hata) but must demonstrate the ability to conduct research independently. Responsibilities include presenting data at weekly lab meetings, participating in the CVRI Trainee RIPS and the CVRI retreat, and publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals in collaboration with the PI. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for training undergraduate students and volunteers in the PI's lab.

An individual with a passion for advancing cardiovascular research and a commitment to mentoring the next generation of scientists are welcome to apply for the position.

Appointees to the Associate rank must possess a Master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization. Appointees to the full Specialist rank must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization.

The candidate should demonstrate expertise in the knowledge and techniques required for cardiovascular phenotyping of pulmonary hypertension in rats and mice. This includes the measurement of right ventricular (RV) systolic pressure, assessment of RV hypertrophy, and vascular imaging techniques such as Microfil casting and Evans Blue staining, along with quantitative analysis using ImageJ.

Furthermore, the candidate must have proficiency in a range of biochemical, cellular, and molecular biology techniques. These include single-cell RNA sequencing, bulk RNA sequencing, Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP)-sequencing, ChIP assays, gel retardation assays, RT-qPCR, ELISA, Western blotting, immunofluorescence staining, and the isolation of pulmonary vascular endothelial and smooth muscle cells from rodent models. Additional required skills include conducting vascular endothelial permeability assays, migration and proliferation assays (both in vitro and in vivo), luciferase reporter based transcription assay, and puromycin-based assays. The candidate should be willing and able to learn new techniques required for the projects.

See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $73,000 - $188,200.
