Overview

HJF is seeking an Associate Scientist that will be responsible for developing and supervising research projects and investigating the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems.

This position will be in support of the Department of Pathology at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. The Associate Scientist will work under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator on research projects focused on traumatic brain injury (TBI) biomarkers and therapeutics, chronic pain, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The incumbent will conduct research on both preclinical and clinical samples, analyzing microRNAs, proteins, and extracellular vesicles using techniques such as droplet digital PCR (ddPCR), ELISA, Western blot, and other standard laboratory methods. Additionally, the Associate Scientist will be responsible for performing animal experiments utilizing preclinical TBI models to evaluate the efficacy of novel therapeutic interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates experimental hypotheses and designs experimental protocol.
  • Develops necessary new technologies and protocols for carrying out the research.
  • Processes and interprets experimental data.
  • May train and supervise technical staff.
  • Coordinates with other technical and professional staff.
  • Prepares funding documents, written reports, manuscripts for submission to scientific journals, and patent applications.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • PhD in a related scientific discipline
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures
  • Ability to work independently and may supervise others.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $57,650-$70,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
