Position Overview

The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This list of duties is illustrative only and does not comprehensively list all the functions and responsibilities performed.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Aviation Maintenance Program Coordinator will be a 12-month tenure-track faculty position with administrative course release time (to be determined by the Dean of Technical Education). This position reports to the Dean of Technical Education and will work in partnership with the Director of Technical Education and the Technical Education Coordinator to fulfill the mission of the school. Applicants chosen for interviews will be required to present a brief teaching simulation before the search committee.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
In addition to teaching courses for the Aviation Maintenance Program, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks, including but not limited to the following:

STUDENT ADVISING and RECRUITMENT

  • Implement recruitment activities at local schools to improve low program enrollment
  • Assist with advising students

FACULTY SUPPORT and CURRICULUM
  • Supervise full and part time faculty.
  • Ensure all curriculum being taught meets FAA regulations in accordance with 14 CRF part 147.
  • Update of the curriculum guide and operations manual.
  • Meet with FAA officials on an as needed basis or when required by the federal agency.
  • Assign courses to instructors for each semester and summer session.
  • Coordinate with the campus bookstore regarding course materials for each semester.
  • Prepare lesson plans, assignments/exams, syllabi, and course materials for General Aviation, Airframe, and Power Plant courses.
  • Teach General Aviation, Airframe, and/or Power Plant courses as part of the FAA Part 147 curriculum.
  • Audit and certify student completions for certificates.
SAFETY and ORGANIZATION
  • Address any outstanding safety concerns.
  • Maintain and organize all of the aviation maintenance-controlled space.
  • Identify and coordinate disposal of obsolete equipment that does not contain an inventory tag.
  • Identify and coordinate disposal/auction of obsolete equipment that does contain an inventory tag with the Inventory Supervisor and the Dean of Technical Education.
  • Coordinate with the Technical Education Coordinator for purchasing of required supplies and materials each semester.
  • Maintain the tools and equipment within the labs and hanger.
  • Ensure that OSHA safety requirements are followed by all faculty, staff, and students while in the aviation facilities.
COMMUNITY and INDUSTRY PARTNER RELATIONSHIP
  • Facilitate the Aviation Maintenance Advisory Committee and serve on at least one campus committee.
  • Coordinate with Community Workforce Training regarding industry-specific training for faculty, students, and industry partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or deemed necessary.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certification.
  • Three years of industry field experience.
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • Per FAA guidelines, the incumbent must pass an initial drug test and participate in randomization testing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate degree in aviation maintenance or related field.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in an aviation-related field or education.

Working Conditions

Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines. Work is done both indoors and outdoors, requires lifting up to 80 pounds, carrying objects of up to 50 pounds. Work performed indoors is performed in a non-smoking facility.
