Aircraft Technology, Inc., (ATI), a subsidiary of HEICO Corporation, is an FAA/EASA Part 145 Repair Station. ATI supports a wide range of rotary and fixed wing components found on both commercial and military platforms around the world.

The VTL (Vertical Turning Lathe) Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating precision machining equipment to manufacture high-quality components for the aviation industry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Precision Measurement: Measure dimensions of finished aviation workpieces using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures to ensure strict conformance to aerospace specifications.
  • Tool Maintenance: Remove and replace dull or worn cutting tools to maintain machining accuracy and efficiency, particularly when working with high-strength aerospace materials.
  • Machine Setup and Alignment: Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on VTL machines, utilizing hand tools and precision measuring instruments while adhering to aviation industry best practices.
  • Operational Monitoring: Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds indicative of issues such as dull cutting tools or excessive vibration, making necessary adjustments to mitigate problems and ensure quality.
  • Adjustments and Troubleshooting: Adjust machine feed rates and speeds, change cutting tools, or modify machine controls as needed in response to faults in automatic programming or equipment malfunctions.
  • Process Management: Stop machines to remove finished aviation components or change tooling, setups, or workpiece placements according to established machining sequences, ensuring compliance with aviation regulations.
  • Material Handling: Lift and position workpieces to machines using manual methods or hoists/cranes, exercising care in handling large and heavy aerospace components.
  • Machining Calculations: Calculate machine speed and feed ratios, as well as the size and position of cuts, to achieve precise machining results aligned with aviation specifications.
  • Control Input: Insert and verify control instructions into machine control units to initiate and maintain operations, ensuring consistent and reliable production.
  • Material and Equipment Management: Move and organize materials, tools, fixtures, and equipment as necessary to promote a streamlined workflow in the production area.
  • Compliance and Safety: Follow all safety protocols and aviation industry regulations to ensure safe and efficient operations, maintaining a commitment to quality and safety standards.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other related duties as assigned to support the production team in achieving timely delivery of high-quality aviation components.

EDUCATION:



  • High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited school.
  • Apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty preferred.



EXPERIENCE:



  • At least 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS OR ABILITIES:



  • Language: English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to use basic shop math.
  • Reasoning Abilities: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Technical Abilities: Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, squat, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The Team Member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
