IRIS is a group of researchers from over a dozen disciplines at the University of Georgia, including engineering, ecology, landscape architecture, geography, anthropology, economics, and policy and law. IRIS expands the definition of infrastructure to include natural systems, including the forests that purify our air and drinking water, barrier islands and natural shorelines that protect our communities from storms, and marshes that store carbon and buffer against erosion. |

Position Summary |
The
Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (
IRIS) and the Department of Geography at the University of Georgia are hiring for a Part-time Research Professional to assist with an oyster and salt marsh restoration effort on Sapelo Island.
The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing community engagement events, island field efforts, and assisting with monitoring of restored reefs.
The research professional will be under the direct supervision of Brock Woodson (
College of Engineering) and Nik Heynen (
Department of Geography), and but will work with the broader team to implement the oyster and marsh restoration project.
The position will be based on Sapelo Island in the Hogg Hummock community.
This part-time position is limited term in nature and c
ontinuation of this position is expressly contingent upon continuation of funding. |
