The Director of HR Strategy is a strategic leader responsible for aligning HR initiatives with the organization's goals, enhancing workforce capabilities, and supporting a culture of continuous improvement. This role partners with UMass Memorial's senior leadership and HR leadership to translate business strategy into actionable workforce strategies, focusing on talent management, organizational effectiveness, and culture transformation. The Director will drive data-informed decisions, ensure an inclusive environment, and lead cross-functional initiatives that support business growth, resilience, and a dynamic workforce strategy. The scope also includes supporting the corporate services function as an HR Business Partner (HRBP) to address specific needs within that area. This position will require the incumbent to instigate, drive and implement change.

Major Responsibilities

  • Translate business strategy and organizational needs into contemporary organizational performance solutions including organizational design, talent management and culture change.
  • Leverage business strategy, people strategy, external best practices, and organizational insights to recommend and deliver bold and innovative organizational and talent solutions.
  • Lead change for effectiveness of organization performance with metrics and analytics in a way that drives business performance.
  • Apply judgement to data insights and trends to support business talent and organization decisions that drives organizational effectiveness and innovative workforce planning, engagement strategies and succession management.
  • Collaborate with the Human Resources Centers of Expertise to monitor external environment and define future workforce requirements as well as identifying and articulating UMass Memorial's Human Resources needs to the COE's and develops programs and processes in ways that bring value to the business.
  • Facilitate quarterly operational review with the HR leadership team, highlighting progress, and identifying risks to the plan to drive greater effectiveness.
  • Prioritize critical business change management needs through partnerships with management while engaging stakeholders and driving change strategy to execution.
  • Deliver system wide change management strategies and plans that maximize change adoption while considering impacts of organizational change from a cultural lens.
  • In addition to the above, standard management level responsibilities may include directing and supervising assigned personnel, conducting performance appraisals, scheduling, and training. Makes decisions on hiring, transfers, firing, budget, and departmental goals. Carries out entity and system level strategy, fosters a culture of continuous improvement, and promotes the standards of respect. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and all health and safety programs.
