We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Molecular Design team within Molecular Modalities Discovery. This role focuses on developing and applying computational chemistry techniques to support our research in DNA/RNA therapeutics. At GSK, our goal is to accelerate the discovery and development of groundbreaking medicines by integrating advanced computational methods, predictive in silico models, and expert analysis. By employing these computational strategies, you will influence the future of GSK's work across all Pharma R&D teams, helping to devise a strategy for the efficient delivery of novel therapeutic modalities through computational design. Your collaboration with preclinical research and development partners will play a crucial role in shaping our pipeline from target identification and modality selection to molecule design, ultimately identifying clinical candidate therapeutics that make a meaningful difference for patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Chemistry focus on oligonucleotide modifications: either synthetic sugars/backbones, or natural nucleobase variants
  • Statistical learning or predictive modelling of signals and noise in empirical datasets: either observational or perturbational
  • Cheminformatic and structural modelling of drug-target binding for small or large molecules validated by real qSAR assays
  • Apply computational chemistry techniques to design and optimize DNA/RNA therapeutics.
  • Develop and implement computational models and algorithms to predict the structure, dynamics, and function of oligonucleotides.
  • Collaborate with experimental groups to drive compound design and refine models using structure-based drug design, ligand-based design, and conformational analysis.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data to guide the design of new therapeutics.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in computational chemistry and DNA/RNA therapeutics.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (both written and oral), with the ability to liaise and communicate computational procedures and outcomes with scientists and collaborators
Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • PhD or MS with 2+ yrs of experience in Computational Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of DNA/RNA structure and function, structural design of oligonucleotides, and oligo therapeutic modalities.
  • Experience with molecular dynamics simulations, quantum mechanics, and other computational chemistry techniques.
  • Experience with writing code in one or more scripting languages (e.g., Python)
  • Expertise working in a Linux/Unix environment
  • Scientific contributions documented with publications and/or presentations

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Strong knowledge of DNA/RNA, protein structures and understanding of chemistry.
  • Experience using bioinformatics methods for protein structure prediction and design
  • Ability to present data in team meetings and participate in writing abstracts and publications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interact with multi-disciplinary matrix teams to address key goals, exhibiting excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Independently review and appraise scientific literature
