JOB SUMMARY

The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Essential Functions (Key Roles & Responsibilities)

*Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and help facilitate their learning by participating in on-boarding training.

*Show patients to examination rooms and prepares necessary equipment for healthcare providers and interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height and record information in the patients medical record.

*Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.

*Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach

*Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.

*Maintains inventory of immunizations and checks expiration date. Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.

*Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.

*Performs other duties as assigned

*Complies with all policies and standards

*Participates in prescription management tasks including pending of new prescriptions and renewal requiring LIP approval, prior authorizations and medication reconciliation.

*Following approved clinical practice guidelines (CPG's) and workflows, sends appropriate orders for radiology, laboratory testing and other care needs requiring LIP authorization.

*Performs a variety of tasks, including those that may be facilitated by administrative staff, which have and effect on overall operations of the unit. These include flow, stocking of rooms, scheduling tasks and other duties assigned.

*Schedule and register patient for appointments/procedures, confirm appointment/procedures, prepare for patient visit by providing patient with necessary information and completing tasks.

*Receive patient at arrival, verify and obtain all necessary information, and ensure forms are completed.

*Ensure billing/fiscal information is completed and submitted after visit, including collection and daily reconciliation of any co-payments.

*Assist with special projects as directed.

*Assist with training and orienting of staff as needed.

*Follow HIPAA Guidelines for the management of patient privacy and confidentiality.

*Answer and transfer telephone calls.

*Appropriately utilizes organization resources including management of time, supplies, equipment and other assets.

*Other duties as assigned.

*Comply with all local, state and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations.

*Ability to take vital signs, manual blood pressures, collect blood samples and other specimens.

*Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.

*Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.

*Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

*Managing one's own time and the time of others.

Qualifications

Qualifications -

Education

Degree: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required or Associates Degree and Medical Assistant Certification preferred

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No

Licenses/Certifications

Basic Life Support [BLS] Certificate - Preferred

Certified Medical Assistant- Preferred

Work Experience:

Direct MA experience or medical field work - 1 Year Min Required
