Lead, Mold Maker

Job Description:

Our site in Colorado Springs, CO is seeking a Lead Mold Maker to join our team.

HOURS FOR THIS POSITION ARE FIRST SHIFT.

This position is responsible for building mold insets and mold base configurations used in production of chip tray and main line products.

What you'll do:

  • Building of new molds along with mold inserts for existing tooling

  • Ability to repair to allow quick turn around with issues as they arise within competency level.

  • Maintains current and appropriate documentation in mold files. Completes all job related documentation.

  • Operates tool room equipment at a high level of competency (CNC Mills, CNC EDMS and CMC Lathes to level of operation to proficient competency)

  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems related to mold cycling, mold function in the press, miscellaneous tooling and fixtures as required.

  • Completes miscellaneous tasks as assigned in support of the larger organization and production goals.

  • Provides support for the Production and "New Product Development" through process, and product improvements.

  • Assembles production molds, cleans molds following standard procedures, and reassembles such as required.

  • Serves as the most senior mold maker in the organization and sets the standard

  • Mentor and trains all other mold makers in identifying, troubleshooting and correcting problems

  • Leads a team of mold makers: task manages and organizes daily efforts; assists in on-the-job training, upgrade training and the professional development of mold makers

  • Completes other duties as assigned.

  • Work is done with a significant degree of independence under general supervision

  • Completes work that is increasingly diverse and requires greater levels of judgement

  • May act as team leader or informal team leader

  • May assist in providing day to day direction to others in a routine manner

  • Contacts are typically with individuals in own organization

What We Seek:

  • 10+ years' experience

  • Possesses tooling experience related to new product development and product release to manufacturing.

  • Applies skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials and equipment appropriate to workload in order to increase efficiency and productivity.

  • Applies mastery skill level in procedures, techniques, tools, materials and appropriate equipment. May adapt procedures, techniques, tools, materials and equipment to meet special needs.

  • Provides leadership and direction to others within the Tooling Department including orientation, training and guidance to other members of the Department. May serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.

  • Actively investigates opportunities, technologies and materials that may offer a higher degree of service or capability; participates in the justification process for new equipment.

  • Ability to demonstrate problem solving and mechanical troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to read and understand work instructions and perform math computations and computer data entry

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb a ladder up to 15 ft. and walk and stand during entire shift.

  • Ability to perform repetitive pushing and sliding of mold plates and mold inserts.

  • Periodically, this position requires repetitive hand, wrist, and grasping of objects with fingers for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to visually detect quality defects.

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods of time.

  • Drives partnerships across departments - involving stakeholders who will be impacted; proactively shares solutions that could positively impact other areas
