Responsibilities
- Under the general supervision of nursing and medical staff, the Patient Care Tech performs a full range of patient care duties with advanced proficiency.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and other personal care needs.
- Monitor and document patient progress, vital signs, and measurements, reporting findings to Registered Nurses or medical staff as required.
- Collect lab specimens, draw blood, and provide patient transport and housekeeping support.
- Perform technical procedures such as feeding tube and catheter administration, suture/staple removal, extremity splinting, and ECGs as ordered.
- Assist with patient treatments, performing range of motion exercises, and recording intake/output measurements according to unit protocols.
- Coordinate unit activities by providing clerical and administrative support, while also engaging in performance improvement initiatives to maintain high standards of personal and departmental performance.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED
- Completion of approved CNA or PCT certification program, or senior nursing student with less than one semester left in the nursing program.
- For emergency room departments, an EMT Basic certification may substitute for CNA/PCT certification; a Paramedic license may fulfill certification requirements.
- Maintain active certification in the State of Kansas.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- 5 years of experience in acute or long-term care settings.
- Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy.
- Cross-trained and capable of performing multiple hospital services, roles, or functions.
