Job Description:

The Role:

Our site in Burnet, TX is seeking an experienced Scientist to join our team. You will be a key player on the dynamic New Product Development team to support multiple projects driving profitable growth in the company's Deposition and Etch Solutions group. Projects will vary depending on size and scope, requiring flexibility and tailored solutions. This role will include direct interaction with technical management and subject matter experts throughout the organization.

The position's primary directive will be establishing and scaling up synthesis & purification processes, characterizing properties, and developing packaging for advanced deposition materials used in high performance semiconductor products. In addition to building fundamental understanding of product lines, this position will support new product development from concept and feasibility through engineering phase in our new product phase gate process.

You will be a key player on the New Product Development team along with other skilled scientists and engineers whose objective is to design, develop and scale up processes, sub-components and equipment for the manufacturing team that are used by our customers to build high performance semiconductor products.

What You'll Do:

  • Design experiments that build fundamental understanding of new chemistries - materials of compatibility, vapor pressure measurement, boiling points, melting points, thermal stability etc.
  • Design, establish, scale up, and improve processes for inorganic and organometallic material purification
  • Have ability and willingness to take a "hands-on" approach to meeting project scope and timing including assisting project team members in completion of deliverables as needed
  • Collect, interpretate, and present technical data within the research and development group and to external customers
  • Independently and in concert with technical staff, support and lead a group that carries out experimentation to development air- and moisture-sensitive inorganic and organometallic precursors for CVD/ALD applications
  • Maintain/own lab equipment required to perform the job (i.e. gloveboxes, fumehoods, glassware etc.)
  • Coordinate sample pulling of chemistry samples and submit to the lab for analysis
  • Document all experiments, procedures, and results thoroughly. Ensure team documents procedures and results thoroughly
  • Coordinate post-service exam plans with manufacturing and NPD on returned containers and chemistry on new containers and from delivery rate experiments

What We Seek:

  • MS or PhD (preferred) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or similar technical field or related experience is required
  • Master's degree with 5 years' experience, PhD with 3 years' experience in chemical industry
  • Good fundamental knowledge of chemistry (vapor pressure, material stability, material compatibility, etc.)
  • Familiarity with materials of construction within semi-industry - stainless steel, Hastelloy, etc.
  • Understanding of distillation and sublimation processes on bench scale up to multiple kilogram scale
  • Accessible by laptop computer and cell phone for occasional use during off hours
  • Handling of air sensitive compounds
  • Experience working in gloveboxes

Outstanding Candidates Will Have:

  • Medium to High volume manufacturing experience
  • Master's degree with 3-5 years' experience, PhD with 1 years' experience in CVD precursor development
  • Experience in corrosion and/or material compatibility is a plus
  • Familiarity with data gathering instrumentation
  • Experience with distillation and/or solid sublimation fundamentals
  • Mechanical aptitude associated with setup of lab scale and larger equipment
