POSITION: Co-Navigator, iCC

REPORTS TO: Manager, iCC

STATUS: On-Call, Non-Exempt (with the potential to go regular Part/Full-Time)

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Associate II

UNION ELIGIBLE: Yes

WORK ARRANGEMENT: 100% In-Person

LOCATION: Southern CA (primarily supporting a colleague in Burbank and potentially another in Irvine to students throughout Southern California)

SALARY RANGE: $28.35/hr-$32.94/hr

OVERVIEW

The National Deaf-Blind Equipment Distribution Program (NDBEDP), also known as iCanConnect, provides equipment needed to make telecommunications, advanced communications, and the Internet accessible to low-income individuals who are deafblind. iCanConnect is a national program with local contacts that helps people stay connected to friends, family and the world. The LH is the local agency partner for the state of California and as such, manages the contract for the entire state, thus serving consumers across the state of California.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 1-year previous experience working with individuals who are DeafBlind or have other disabilities is preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License, good driving record, and insurable on the company's insurance policies
  • Proficiency in tactile ASL
  • Excellent written, verbal, and signing communication skills.
  • Ability to present information clearly, enthusiastically, and warmly.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with conscientiousness and respect.
  • A high level of social-emotional intelligence, demonstrating patience and empathy.
  • Strong level of emotional intelligence and ability to engage with and listen to others.
  • Strong coaching skills, including positive problem solving and professional communication.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Maintain up-to-date First Aid and CPR certifications, to be paid for by LightHouse
  • An effective user of Microsoft Office Suite, (including Outlook, Word, and Excel), Salesforce or other database experience, and knowledge of Zoom or other web conferencing platforms is a plus.
  • Bi-lingual/bi-cultural English/Spanish is highly desired.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate communication using methods such as tactile sign language, Braille, and other adaptive communication tools.
  • Guide and assist with navigation in various environments, ensuring safety and accessibility.
  • Drive Blind and/or DeafBlind LH staff consumer residence and/or training locations.
  • Record time accurately within the LH payroll system.
  • Provide accurate and timely data entry into the iCC database, KLAS as needed.


Ability to perform other related duties as assigned, within the scope of this role.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to carry or transport 20lbs
  • Sit/Stand at a desk and perform intensive computer work for extended periods daily
  • Operate standard office equipment
  • Must be able to independently travel to all LightHouse campuses and throughout the community as needed
