What You Will Do


  • Displays commitment to UH Essential Behaviors, the UH mission, employee engagement and other system-wide service excellence initiatives
  • Supervises, recruits and trains the Orthopaedic Technicians
  • Coordinates daily and weekly assignments and activities
  • Oversees the standardization, maintenance, and supply inventory of the cast rooms in the hospital and outpatient clinic cast rooms.
  • Shares supervision of other clinic staff in collaboration with Orthopaedic leadership as part of matrix reporting structure
  • Provides supervisory oversight in Orthopaedic clinic settings to assist with daily operations
  • Participates in departmental initiatives for quality, patient satisfaction, volume growth, I.T. systems, new processes
  • Educates Orthopaedic Residents on the principles of splinting, casting and traction application.
  • Evaluates casting, traction, soft good products as it relates to their use within outpatient clinics and within the hospital
  • Assists Orthopaedic Surgeons in setting specialized traction apparatuses and applying/removal of patient casts and splints
  • Responsible for performing duties as first assistant to the orthopaedic surgeons in the operating room
  • Assists surgeons when necessary in surgery, Emergency Department, Patient care floors, and on-call on weekends
  • Provides clinical support to physicians in outpatient clinics
  • Educates patients and families on appropriate usage, precautions, donning, and doffing of orthopaedic devices
  • Educates clinic staff on usage, precautions, and donning and doffing of orthopaedic devices, casting, traction application
  • Follows DME procedures for electronic charging and compliance
  • Assists with DME inventory management
  • Provides age specific care to patients from neonates through elderly
  • Takes responsibility for self development and supports a learning environment

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
