- Follow standard operating procedures as well as written and verbal orders and instructions in English.
- Lift up to 75 lbs. and be in good physical condition. Standing, bending, climbing, crawling, and lying on hard surfaces as well as upper body and back strength required.
- Follow all company policies and procedures as stated in the company policy and safety manual including wearing safety glasses, safety toed footwear, hardhats, and other required PPE per area.
- Able to work in a noisy environment.
- Work overtime as needed.
- Actively pursue cost reduction measures.
- Perform all assigned tasks within specific time limits and company standards.
- Must be able to read a tape measure.
- Must comply with all safety regulations regarding the work area, the product and equipment. Recognize and report all safety discrepancies to your supervisor.
- Possess some knowledge of all aspects of this field including products, options, and uses.
- Ability to learn how to read and understand simple blue prints.
- Ability & willingness to be cross trained in respective departments.
- Able to learn about parts and where they are used as well as the number required per assigned task.
- Communicate with department leaders when items run low in order to restock/reorder parts.
- Possess some prior experience from outside of the company or has mastered all the required skills at the previous level in order to advance.
- Willingness to share department and company knowledge as needed.
- Ability to write down information for future reference.
Daily Functions:
- Ability to learn, read and fully comprehend complex electrical schematic diagrams and use them to diagnose and troubleshoot problem areas.
- Has some knowledge about the complete truck chassis electrical system including changing or starting and load management systems.
- Can use test equipment.
- Possess a basic knowledge of electronic controls used on transmission and engines. The use of the data reader and laptop may require further education to keep updated on changes in vehicle electronics.
- Mount and wire equipment on truck and run/route wiring harnesses throughout the truck body using small hand tools. Requires wrist strength.
- Install and wire equipment including but not limited to lights and light mounts, generator set systems, and intercom systems, including radio interfaces.
- Possess a basic knowledge of basic electric tools, crimpers, side cutters, wire gauge, & pulling wires.
- Ability to consistently read a tape measure accurately.
- Ability to read blueprints, & shop orders etc.
- Ability to run wire in conduit.
- Ability to use a fish tape.
- Ability to identify colors.
- Ability to identify and distinguish between different ends for wiring.
- Ability to read wiring schematics.
- Properly operate a Deutsch crimper
- Ability to run harnesses & wires in ladder sections.
- Ability to wire hydraulic swivel, outrigger boxes, & rear panels.
- Ability to wire and install lights & switches.
- Ability to distinguish between 12v & 120v wires.
Potential Hazards:
- Eye injuries: use eye protection at all times.
- Cuts & burns: Use caution to prevent cuts when sanding and wear PPE when welding to protect against burns.
- Trips, slips, & falls: ensure all air hoses and obstacles are kept clear of aisles. Use caution when climbing on and off trucks.
- Shock: electrical charge can occur if equipment is not used correctly.
- Repetitive motions: correctly use hand tools to prevent injury.
