Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The Department of Facilities Management's functions are to design, maintain, repair, and operate the University's physical facilities. We aim to provide facilities that enhance and support the mission and academic goals of the University while maintaining a superior level of customer service.
Description of Work Continued:
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The position will be assigned as the Director of Facilities Operations and report directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for FM. The position will manage the FM Operations section, which consists of the Trades group (Electrical, HVAC/Plumbing, Carpentry/Painting) and Environmental Services (Custodial and Grounds).
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
A master's degree with three (3) years of relevant experience or a bachelor's degree in business administration, Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Degree, and at least five (5) years of relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
Knowledge:

  • Facilities Management: Understanding of building systems, maintenance, and repair.
  • Safety and Compliance: Knowledge of safety regulations, building codes, and compliance requirements.
  • Budgeting and Financial Management: Familiarity with budgeting, financial planning, and cost control.
  • Project Management: Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
  • Sustainability Practices: Awareness of sustainability. Practices and energy management.


Skills:

  • Leadership: Ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving: Ability to identify issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with facilities management software and tools.

  • Decision-Making: Ability to make informed and timely decisions.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze data and trends to make strategic decisions.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and handle unexpected issues.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail to ensure all aspects of the facility are running smoothly.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with staff, vendors, and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in higher education.
  • Seven (7) years + managerial experience.
  • Experience leading a large team in facilities and operations.
