GENERAL SUMMARY
The Red Valve Plant Controller will be responsible for supporting the DeZURIK Red Valve Business (RV) optimization strategy and lead finance processes for full P&L and Balance Sheet business analysis and forecasting/budgeting. The RV Plant Controller will be responsible for understanding the RV products and manufacturing processes, overseeing and providing in-depth costing analysis, product profitability and variance reporting. The RV Plant Controller will partner with Corporate Finance for the review and analytics of month-end financials, and key performance improvement initiatives, and be active in the quarterly forecast and annual plan submissions.
The RV Plant Controller will oversee accounting functions for Red Valve, including general and cost accounting, monthly closing and annual audit procedures, as well as providing leadership and support to the corporate accounts receivable and accounts payable processes. The RV Plant Controller will contribute to all areas of plant management and provide strong financial leadership while serving as an operations business partner to the RV Vice President of Operations and Supply Chain. This position will supervise accounting staff located in Pittsburgh, PA and report to the DeZURIK Chief Financial Officer.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Be a valued and integral part of the Red Valve organization, engaging with various levels of leadership within the business unit and with Corporate resources.
- Develop Finance processes and be viewed as a change agent, role model, and coach (including training team members in finance concepts).
- Lead monthly closing procedures and provide clear and concise summary of results to finance and plant leaders, partnering with Corporate finance to ensure the accuracy of the monthly results as needed.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements.
- Oversee all aspects of RV accounting activities, including AP, AR, and general accounting.
- Lead and coordinate with external auditors the financial audit of the Red Valve financial results.
- Deliver accurate monthly/quarterly forecasting and annual budgeting processes for the RV business, while partnering with functional department leaders and Corporate leadership.
Business Partnership and Process Improvement
- Drive business performance and lead Finance processes by:
- Providing financial and operational reports required for comprehensive decision support to the VP of Operations and Supply Chain, including detailed analysis and presentation of monthly actual financial results.
- Responsible for the development of accurate revenue forecasts based on analysis of order backlog and planned shipments.
- Understand the full cycle production process and provide value-added recommendations to management to enhance profitability through efficiency, quality, productivity, and/or cost initiatives.
- Responsible for standard cost and inventory valuation, and compliance with the cost and inventory procedures at the Gastonia, NC manufacturing site.
- Using strong manufacturing costing experience to analyze production and pricing variances, excess and obsolete inventory, inventory turnover. Present solutions to management for overall improvement and cost saving initiatives.
- Develop and maintain reporting for product line profitability.
- Analyzing significant variances from planned and forecasted results in order to provide recommendations to RV management, with focus on continuous improvement of business processes.
- Ensuring reliability and completeness of financial data and analysis by supporting and validating the reconciliation process of ERP, Financial Reporting systems and Business Intelligence Tools.
- Help standardize and improve key processes and reporting for the Red Valve Business and overall organization in a culture that fosters respect and teamwork, positive energy, customer first, absolute integrity, innovation and adaptability, and accountability for performance.
- Collaborate with RV leadership across both the Gastonia, NC and Pittsburgh, PA locations including but not limited to Engineering, Inside Sales, IT, and Product Data teams.
- Develop understanding of inside sales processes, and the role finance serves in supporting those processes. Present solutions to improve efficiencies to best serve the Red Valve business.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA or CPA/CMA is preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in Manufacturing Finance and Accounting, within a standard costing environment. Knowledge of US GAAP and International Accounting Standards (IAS). Experience in a manufacturing company required.
- 5+ years of supervisory experience, with record of leading a direct reporting team of Accounting staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to work independently with little supervision, and self-driven to lead process improvement and operational efficiencies.
- Solid understanding of financial statements and accounting principles.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skillset with the ability to summarize and report out in an easily understood format to all levels of management.
- Ability to work deeply in the business to identify opportunities, gather data, validate facts, and draw conclusions, while working on the business to refine and execute strategic initiatives.
- Ability to lead or support cross-functional projects involving Business Leadership, Finance and Operational personnel.
- Ability to utilize data visualization tools such as Tableau, DOMO to produce illustrative reports and insights.
- Advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Oracle NetSuite experience would be beneficial.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Physical demands are typical of an office position including extended periods of sitting, extensive use of a personal computer and telephone.
- Travel for the company including both domestic and international travel may be required for project/systems support up to 20% of the time.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds independently.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal manufacturing and office environment. When working occasionally in some shop areas, personal protection equipment (PPE) will be recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses w/side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron and boots). Must have the ability to support extended business hours to meet customer business needs.
